Guest David C Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 It's been reported this morning on ABC radio that a "light aircraft " with two occupants has gone missing on a flight from The Oaks airfield near Camden to Pooncarie . On talking to a pilot from The Oaks airfield this morning , it appears that the aircraft is a based Jabiru , although the occupants at this stage have not been identified to me . The source also identified the aircraft as " the chicken mans " Jabiru ... Darren would know the aircraft in question I'm sure ... It's one we have both flown on numerous occasions . My thoughts are with the occupants and families of the missing . We can only hope that they are out there somewhere at this moment in good health awaiting rescue .. Dave C
Guest Darren Masters Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Anything further on this Dave? Yes, an aircraft I used to fly often.
Guest David C Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 It all worked out good for all concerned . The pilot , who I don't know , decided to make a landing about 50Km short of Pooncarie due to deterorating weather . It appears that he made no contact on either radio to centre or tried to make a contact on 121.5 Mhz ( International air emergency freq ) before the landing , hence a search was initiated . He was found next day together with his male passenger some 50km away from the aircraft after walking all night to a RFS station . It also appears that no EPIRB or PLB was carried . This info is second hand I hasten to add , so you know how it goes , it may not exactly be legit . A happy and fortunate outcome was the result though and these two people can fly another day ..
