HeadInTheClouds Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Hi all, Thought I would join up to this site as it seems like a friendly place. Only started out in RAA recently, got about 6 hours at the moment in a Foxbat and hope to have my certificate by the end of next year. Not new to aviation forums, used to post on another forum (Which seems to be infamous around here...) under another name, which after some 300 posts I had deleted due to reasons I won't go into. (I have nothing against the 'other' forum and still post there occasionally) Seems like another good forum here, I'll go wherever the aviation related discussion goes :) A bit about me too I guess. Currently in the middle of my HSC exams, aiming to get into medicine at uni next year, not sure how that will go however. I plan on getting my RAA cert and a Nav endorsement sometime, and possibly a GFPT and later PPL when I get the hours. All I really want to do is fly for fun, and take people flying for fun And I'd also like to own my own aircraft... one day... Would love to make it to NATFLY 2012 but I don't think I will get the chance.
Guest DWB Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Hey welcome Jake - Glad to see you over here mate. You are truly amongst friends, old & new.
Guest BlackRod Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Yeah, G'day Jake, good to catch up again. Welcome to friendly skies! Give your exams all you've got and we all wish you the best of luck! Even if you don't get in first up, if medicine is what you really want to do then don't give up. My son-in-law did Science at Uni and taught here and in the UK briefly. When he came back to Aus he sought and was admitted to Medicine and graduated from Sydney Uni and has gone on to Specialise. Another mate of mine didn't even have the ambition to do medicine until after finishing a Commerce Degree. He never practiced as an accountant just turned around and went back to Uni to do Medicine.
HeadInTheClouds Posted October 24, 2011 Author Posted October 24, 2011 Thanks. Not sure of the reasons for the mass exodus but I know I sure am seeing a lot of familiar avatars over here!
dazza 38 Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Welcome Jake . Good to see you here. A few of us post on both sites
Wayne T Mathews Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Thanks. Not sure of the reasons for the mass exodus but I know I sure am seeing a lot of familiar avatars over here! Welcome Jake. I agree with Blackrod... If at first you don't suceed,,, keep trying until you do... One of Winston Churchill's most famous speeches took about five minutes to deliver, but had only five words in it... "NEVER!!!! (he spent a couple of minutes making eye contact with his audience),,,, NEVER!!!! (he again made eye contact with his audience),,,, NEVER GIVE UP!!!!" And on the subject of the mass exodus... I do believe it's more a migration of like minded people to a more friendly and less dictatorial place, than a mass exodus... Many of us still visit the other side, for there is value in both... 1
HeadInTheClouds Posted October 25, 2011 Author Posted October 25, 2011 Thanks for the words of encouragement :) I console myself in the fact that I have a good backup plan, which will prepare me for getting into med at a later date. Also if I happen to miss out on Medicine I will be doing a less intensive course and have much more time for flying, which I suppose is a positive thing!
Guest Darren Masters Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 G'day Jake and welcome to TAA :)
Guest DavidH10 Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Welcome Jake, even though you popped up here a day ahead of me :-) I'm still working on editing my flight around the clouds video...very time consuming (to continue some comments we made elsewhere). Hope to get it up on YouTube soon. As we had two cameras rolling, trying some picture in picture scenes. Don't get distracted from those HSC Exams. Very important to your future. There's time for flying afterwards. Good luck with your objectives. Hey, Darren. Love Jetstar's new fleet candidate (in your avatar) ;-)
HeadInTheClouds Posted October 25, 2011 Author Posted October 25, 2011 Can't wait to see the video! :) I really should think of starting to film some of my lessons, not only to show people but also it would be a good learning tool. Problem is trying to find a camera that isn't going to cost me a lessons worth of flying... Easier said than done.

Guest Michael Coates Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Welcome aboard... great to see new people here and also YOUNG ONES !! Do the exams, do well at school AND enjoy your flying !! Where are you at ?? If near the Gold Coast it would be great to get you to the airport one Saturday and we can take you flying in some of the club planes to give you exposure to some of the different models out there.
HeadInTheClouds Posted October 25, 2011 Author Posted October 25, 2011 Thanks. Unfortunately I am a bit of a drive from the Gold Coast , about 4 hours away in NSW. If I'm ever up that way, which I may be sometime soon, I'll be sure to drop in to Jacobs Well for a look!
Guest Michael Coates Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 then you must be near Coffs Harbour ? They have a very active recreational flying club and it is always great to get new young people into aircraft so you can continue the traditions of us older people in flying around Australia. Make sure you make it known to your local airfield that you are studying for your pilot certificate, interested in flying and you will be amazed how many people offer up a seat for a free flight
David Isaac Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Gidday Young Jake ... good to see you here as well. I also have foot in both camps having buried the hatchet. Both sites have real value. Looking forward to hearing from you over time. Winston was right buddy ... NEVER give up. All the best. 1
Guest avi8tr Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Welcome headintheclouds. Stay on this site and you will be rewarded with friendliness. Sorry to hear that your previous existence was deleted. Nice suck-up job there by the way David, don't know why you bothered.
turboplanner Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 As another thread starts to head down into the sewer, some of you might like to take a look at the thread "Pro Bono" on Recflying. It is advice given by a qualified lawyer, not the site owner, and while the first post is aimed very broadly, she narrows down to who she is talking to more precisely in a later post. A site which claims to be "Australia's Friendliest Aviation Forum" isn't going to have much credibility if it's the one with the highest percentage of thread locks in aviation. 1

Bit of an overreaction there Tubz? It will take more than one comment in one post on this thread, to head it down the sewer, and if no one takes the bait it wont go anywhere.
Guest avi8tr Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Thanks for the information Alan, I'll try and be more positive from now on. As a reminder as to how happy this place actually is, here is a photo of Disneyland, the happiest place on earth. Here and there are one in the same.
Guest Glenn Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 guys, do I need to open up the dungeon and put someone in it? JK Now get back to the topic please :)
HeadInTheClouds Posted October 25, 2011 Author Posted October 25, 2011 Talk about drifting offtopic here...
Guest Michael Coates Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 mmm... i think i could get a BD5 through that opening !! I can see aviation in every photo.
Guest BlackRod Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Please, let's take Glenn's suggestion and all of us stay away from unnecessary, non-aviation related discussion of other fora. That place is there and this place is here. Let's just leave it that way.
Guest avi8tr Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Don, are you trying to be Alan (turboplanner), your avatar has changed to his or at least it has on my PC ???
Guest BlackRod Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 You may need to change your medication avi8tr :D.
