red750 Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Amazing accident video from inside the aircraft - 2 cameras. Caution - a bit gory at one point. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDu0jYiz-v8
Grumman Ace Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Why would he continue when it was never going to climb?
Guest David C Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 This video has certainly gone viral .... It should have been obvious to any pilot that if your lightie needs more runway than a 747 on a hot day it's time to shut the throttle . What a ridiculous display of irresponsible piloting . Dave C
sixtiesrelic Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 I like the excuse. Sounds like the pilot told the non flier that one. I have seen that 25 seconds seems to be about the norm for a take off. Time them yourself. Jet or Cessna... they seem to be around the twenty five seconds.
red750 Posted August 10, 2012 Author Posted August 10, 2012 Required viewing for all student pilots? . 1

What a ridiculous display of irresponsible piloting .Dave C I seem to recall seeing this footage somewhat earlier, but that's by the by. I'm only on the outside looking in (ie a non-pilot) but am I interpreting incorrectly somewhere? It looks to me as though they're well & truly airborne, but for some reason the pilot either cannot, or chooses not to, ascend to a safe altitude. And they were all very very lucky.
red750 Posted August 11, 2012 Author Posted August 11, 2012 Accident occurred on June 30 this year. Here is the link to a report on aviation-safety.net: http://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/wiki.php?id=146586 And the NTSB notification : http://www.ntsb.gov/aviationquery/brief.aspx?ev_id=20120701X65804&key=1 (If this link is broken, copy above line into browser address bar). Note: "The certified commercial pilot ...". .
siznaudin Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 Interesting to see what the "..further examination" reveals.
Tex Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 Rough calculation shows density alt would have been over 9000', looking on google and estimating the lift off point from the video (which is hard to tell) looks like they took nearly 1km to lift off... or lifted off and touched down again for a bit .............. no flaps set either?
mnewbery Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 http://www.avweb.com/blogs/insider/AVWebInsider_IdahoCrash_207189-1.html ... Yes I think it's required viewing, along with VFR into IMC. Maybe we should have a new forum called stupid pilot tricks? Also this contribution from Australia, Sept 2007 http://www.casa.gov.au/wcmswr/_assets/main/fsa/2002/sep/21-23.pdf 1
