red750 Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Filmed from within aircraft. Screen goes black after 15 seconds but audio continues: http://www.takeofftube.com/view/4789/plane-crashes-after-hitting-power-line/
Guest DWB Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Pretty dramatic! Can't believe the pilot didn't see the power line seeing there was a pole almost right in the flight path. Alternatively of course he may have known it was there & misjudged his clearance or got a bit of sink at the wrong time. Me personally I always allow at least 6 metres going over power lines
Guest aviatrix27 Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 and you get plenty of practice Dex! I think the "verb" used by the cameraman would have been different, had it been me :p
dazza 38 Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Hmmm, that was very sudden stop.Im glad nobody died. 1
metalman Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Wow, certainly came down in a hurry, the heavier GA stuff seems to handle power lines a bit better, saw pics of a piper that hit one on final ( way below where it should've been) nearly tore the fin off but it kept flying! Good ad for having big balls on the lines, Met 1
Guest DWB Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 I'm still waiting for my big balls! Actually the power authority prefer big flags (aluminium I think) now they told me, as they create less wind drag & weight on the line. At least the price is going to be right. Another local private strip about 3 miles from me is also getting them on his lines on approach
cficare Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 i'd suggest....'sucked in'....just because others have landed there doesn't make it safe.
