Guest DWB Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 Does anyone here use Evans Coolant in their 912? I have just changed over to it, including using the Evans Rinse out/Cleaner before refilling with the Evans Coolant. It is an expensive exercise to say the least. If you have changed, did you notice higher operating coolant temps? Granted that since refilling with it I have flown only on days where the ambient temp has been 35+, I still don't recall seeing my temps get this high when using 100% Glycol. How high? Into the yellow arc or 230 deg F in climb out & top edge of green arc maintaining 5000rpm. I might push it a bit harder next flight to see if it actually will go higher or not.
Scotty 1 Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 Hi Dex Ole uses a 50/50 mix as he has found the Evans runs to hot up north. Cheers Scotty Not Evans mixed at a 50/50 ratio but another coolant recomended for a 50/50 mix.
Guest DWB Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Well after a few hours flying with the Evans in, I have decided to remove it. I just am not comfortable flying with the oil & CHT running at 230 deg F. The needles are on the edge of the red all the time & this is reflected in reduced oil pressure. Maybe this stuff might be recommended by Rotax, but maybe for cooler climates than Australia. It might be fine that Evans can go to 180 deg C (356 deg F) with no problem but if that means your oil temps are going way high than that makes a problem as far as I'm concerned.
