Dave English Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 You cant land on Rhodondo, or Craggy, and probably not curtis. You may be ok on Hogan, but dont plan on being able to fly off again. CASA wont let a light sports fly further than 25 NM from " an appropriate landing place".
Savannahflyer Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 A lot of those islands are just big pointy rocks. Deal and Hogan Islands are the only biggish type ones from memory. I think Deal Island even has a strip on it. My father used to own a small charter company and I used to fly the route with him regularly in his Senca 2. I think the trick is pick your days and get going early just after first light before any wind picks up. I plan to do the trip over xmas in a Savannah I'm not worried about ditching though I think that would be "ok" I'm worried about floating around with those big great whites afterwards until someone pocks me up. Mind you I have a lot of trust in the mighty rotax 912 but you have to be prepared for the worst no matter what!
Marty_d Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 I think I'd take the wings off and stick in on the Spirit.
up-into-the-air Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 More stuff on the Thruster engine stoppage and ditching towards Flinder's Island and action of #casa. Report from Tasmanian Court System
Marty_d Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Great reporting (as usual)... "They were winched to safety by an Ambulance Victoria plane"...
Robbo Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Great reporting (as usual)..."They were winched to safety by an Ambulance Victoria plane"... A plane that can hover and winch, wow learn something new each day.
planedriver Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Just sayin! A plane that can hover and winch, wow learn something new each day. Probably has a ceiling-fan fitted Robbo? You can get em as cheap as $12bucks these days from Bunnings 1
