Marty_d Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Watched "Flight" (starring Denzel Washington) the other night on DVD. While the movie is more about alcohol abuse than flying, there is a fairly gripping flying scene, where he uses a novel method of pulling an MD-80 with elevators jammed down out of a terminal dive. Despite the serious and somewhat tragic plot line, I thought it was a good watch! 3
johnm Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 Yes - i'd iamgine the movie won't get on the list of all time greats, but He certianly liked flying, booze and drugs .................... and not in that order either I thought the ending - about when his son asked him (Denzel - his dad) a question .......... was a great message (thesaurus says use the word 'poignant' at this point)
bexrbetter Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 Yep, seen it - my last flight to Australia was screening it, pointed out the plane crashing to the woman next to me
Neil_S Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 .... pointed out the plane crashing to the woman next to me....... LOL - hope she wasn't a nervous flier....

(Well, had enjoyed the night before, by implication).

M61A1 Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 There was a movie about some Czech pilots in WWII, called "Dark Blue World", which I thought was quite good, unlike "Pearl Harbour" which is a good story in reality, but a crap movie. 1

spacesailor Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 "Pearl Harbour" Lots of true stories from there!. Like the female flight instructor who was shot at and survived by great flying & her pupil who ran off without paying. was later killed by a fellow ferry pilot. spacesailor

"Dark Blue World" was magnificent. Mind you, anything with Spitfires in it will keep me drooling.
