timothyb Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 What an awesome resource. Definitely something to add to the trip planning kit. Looking at Undara Airport in Google Maps satellite view, what is that weirdness on the western part of the runway? Flooding? And the Musgrave Roadhouse marker is in the wrong spot. Doing a Google Maps search for "Musgrave Roadhouse, Yarraden, Queensland" will point out the correct location.

rgmwa Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 I have often stopped at Balladonia, Caiguna, Cocklebiddy and Madura on the Nullabor. Haven't landed there (yet), but the strips are all within a kilometre of the roadhouses/motels, so should meet the food/fuel/beer criteria. The strip details are all in the WA Country Airstrip Guide too. rgmwa

Guest Maj Millard Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 John, could you please affix to your list an indication of the type of beer they serve...can't drink anything by CUB. Thanks in advance, Don You may have trouble finding that in parts of Qld, and may be forced to drink real beer !..........Maj....
Methusala Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 No Ross, I said that I can't stomach beer brewed by CUB. I think that the wonderful XXXX is brewed by Lion Nathan. Don't have any problems with that (in moderation...of course). Don

timothyb Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 What's the difference between blue and purple markers?
JG3 Posted December 4, 2013 Author Posted December 4, 2013 What's the difference between blue and purple markers? Blue markers are airfields near enough to town. Purple markers are fly-in resorts. There should be an explanation above the list of places on the left of the page. JG
ayavner Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Hi there - FYI the cafe listed for Wollongong (YWOL) burned to the ground last year and there are no plans to rebuild last I heard. Real shame that...
metalman Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 I've never measured it ,but I think YCEM is pretty close to shops and a nice restaurant ( on the corner maroondah hwy and killara rd) feels close in a car ,might be different on foot though Matty

JG3 Posted February 1, 2014 Author Posted February 1, 2014 Yeh that's a real shame. Not enough cafes on airfields in this country....... JG 2
DrZoos Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Armidale NSW has a caltex servo at the airport . And a cafe open monday to friday some hours in the terminal.
rick morawski Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Broken Hill, NSW has a cafe on the airfield. Plus the flying club has a couple small accommodation units on field, great if your just passing through and want to get an early start. The local pizza shop also deliver out to the strip, what more could you want? Rick

rick morawski Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Hi John Hope you're still maintaining the pubs airstrips map, I use it often for planning. You can add Augusta and Rottnest in WA, both good places for a stop and lunch, Rotto even has a shuttle bus to pick you up and take you back to the airstrip Also can you edit Balladonia, you have it marked at the Balladonia station, should be Balladonia hotel (YBAL) which is N/W up the highway a bit. Cheers Rick
JG3 Posted September 20, 2015 Author Posted September 20, 2015 Thanks for that Rick. Just updated, from my camper van in the USA - amazing technology.... JG 1
hihosland Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 Tooradin has excellent restaurant (fish a speciality) on the field and a snack bar when the skydivers are operating as well as tea etc at flying school La Trobe ( Tararalgon) has tea and pies at the aeroclub and a motel with a restaurant 800 mtr walk
DrZoos Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 jG i checked last night and while the list is comprehensive, Google or someone has removed most the pins from the map...just giving you a heads up
