Guest Maj Millard Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Departed Montpelier at 6.45 for a pleasant north coastal flight to a cane farm strip just South of Tully NQld. Most of the locals were there, plus a couple from nearby Innisfail. I could hear lots of traffic in the circut at Atherton up on the tablelands as I approached Tully, but only Karl in his privately owned Bell Jetranger made it down, with the rest as no-shows due cloud on the approaches to the tablelands. My run back included a stop at Abergowrie strip North of Ingham to visit a friend, followed by a slowish return to the Townsville area into forecast 30 kt winds !........the BOM site showing 27 kts on landing at Montpelier....may not have been the prettiest landing, but I did keep it off the barbwire fence, and I could still taxi it.......... Some photos of local aircraft, and the first is of five fearless, story- telling pilots, and one cane farmer property owner.....guess which one is the cane. farmer !!..........................Maj.....
frank marriott Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Ross Saw the email but no details on the strip or its actual location so not considered. Went to Ayr for smoko instead. Some UL strips not suitable for a J230. Frank
Guest Maj Millard Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 This strip was nice Frank, wide and 2600 FT long. Would have been fine for a Jab.......Jabs are ultralights anyway aren't they .?.........photo of the strip, first one in my 2nd post......Maj....
frank marriott Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Yes but where is it, I know it is in the Tully area on someone's farm - but unlikely to find it with only that much info.
Guest Maj Millard Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Frank , being that it is a private property I don't wish to post co-ords on the forum...I will PM them to you ok ......Cheers Ross
Hongie Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 couple of very nice rv's there. and a harmon or F1 rocket too... very nice! Do you know where it came from Ross?
frank marriott Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 couple of very nice rv's there. and a harmon or F1 rocket too... very nice! Do you know where it came from Ross? Alex Harney from Tully area has the F1 and his brother has a RV6. The 2 RV6 and the F1 are a neat formation team.
Guest Maj Millard Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Yes most of the slick stuff came from nearby Tully, and their departures were very impressive indeed. The F1 is a very nice machine.......he did have it for sale at one point, but no longer as of Sunday !.........on takeoff it reminded me of a P-51 mustang the way it climbed out...........Maj....
