Gnarly Gnu Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Nice photos / article here... Nev and some others here will likely fondly recall this.
kaz3g Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 The Empire class flying boats were still operating when I was a kid...beautiful! But the old Handley Page passenger plane - 4 engine biplane - in the late 1920's was quite Amazing for its safety record. No passengers were lost over the millions of miles flown. It grew out of the HP bomber of WW1 which dropped a lot of processed Australian iron ore on the other side. Kaz

IanR Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 I used to sit in school looking out the window at the flying boats taking off from Rose Bay - can't remember what was going on in class !! Got a soft spot for the Empire Flying Boats though as my Auster shares its rego with one of the Qantas ones
facthunter Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 A bit before my involvement Kaz, but the flying boats were similar technology. Last of the big piston props and wouldn't have missed it for anything else. Nev
