DrZoos Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Hi guys i have relatives that live right at the base of Mt Durri just south of Tamworth. If i wanted to avoid Tamworth airport whats your thoughts on other landing spots there. Whats Currabubula like. The old classic line " My uncle actually has a crop duster strip on his farm. " But there is no way in hell I would consider landing there till i check it out for myself on the ground. I also note you have to be under 3500 ft to avoid CTA, but there are some high mountains, named appropriately "Mt Terrible" etc. I would appreciate some local knowledge on the area. Ta...Zoos
Old Koreelah Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Don't know of safe strips in that area, but if you want to use YQDI we could help. Perhaps we could drive you to Duri for a ground assessment before you commit to landing there. I'd be very wary of unknown airstrips, especially if I had less than a few hundred hours up. There is bugger-all clearance between the top of the ridge and the CTA step. Getting into an unknown airstrip is difficult enough without that. 2
