Phil Perry Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 I, (amongst a few million others ) was desperately sorry to hear about the loss of nine persons ( including 3 crew on the helicopter ) which fell into the flat roof of a very busy Glasgow pub one night last week, and has featured highly in our national news channels for a while,. . . . I AM however, happy to see that there has been NO speculation at all regarding the cause of this incident. This is highly unusual for an aviation accident which achieves national coverage, there are usually loads of experts rolled out on the TV giving their views on what might have happened. The ONLY editorial report has been that "The highly experienced ex-military pilot did not issue a Mayday call. . . ." We are all waiting to hear what the A.A.I.B. report says.
M61A1 Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 My wife subscribes to several online newspapers from your part of the world (she used to live there), I thought the speculation was pretty much as you described "as usual", with "experts" from BAE, commenting on probable main rotor transmission failures, and other witnesses describing engines as misfiring, EC135 has 2 gas turbines mind you. There is a large military contract under tender over here, with most of the main contenders offering the EC135 as the platform, so I also will be very interested in the outcome. I work for one of the companies tendering, work on Eurocopter stuff.
