timothyb Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 It has a big name to live up to but this landing is definitely an eye-opener if you havent seen one 2
DrZoos Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 You can also see some great stuff if you Look up extreme Stol Extreme stol competition Or extreme short field landing. 1
timothyb Posted December 8, 2013 Author Posted December 8, 2013 Damn. Why would you want a helicopter!
Guest Maj Millard Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Yes the Smackdown what a marvellous machine. However having done some fuselage repairs recently on a Highlander after a botch landing, I only hope they have beefed up the fuselage tubing a bit on the Smackdown ! Also some great Smackdown footage elsewhere if you do a search...........Can't wait to see one in this country..............Maj.....
rankamateur Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 wish I had the cash for one That will pass.
facthunter Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Not sure it would be enough to maintain my interest for ever. Good to develop the skills required but it is a bit single purpose to do all the time. Nev 1
DrZoos Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Imagine the places you could land though. It would introduce the hundred dollar picnic to flying as you could pop in anywhere for a feed, swim, walk.... I love speed, but thats pretty cool to be able to fly in at running pace and plop it down in a car space. What about this nev this could make it very interesting
SDQDI Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Seems to me I'd rather be in that plane with an engine failure than a speedy gazelle, although an efato wouldn't be any fun if you were pushing the limits but push the limits in any aircraft and an efato wouldn't be fun, certainly looks as though an out landing in a paddock wouldn't be too bad in it
facthunter Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Not if you are hanging on the prop, for your engine failure. Excellent aircraft for outlanding . That's what they are built for. ALASKA has few roads over the hills. Nev 2
mAgNeToDrOp Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 And the fun police will be there if you dare land on a beach or somewhere that they can't charge you money... I still want one.. 1
facthunter Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 I was going to comment on Fun police but prudently refrained. Now you can ALL die of curiosity, ( like the cat). Nev 1
skeptic36 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Funny, they never show a windsock or even a tree in those vids, if you've got 20 knts in your face then that's 20 knts less ground speed you need
mAgNeToDrOp Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Here's one with a windsock (dead) Still pretty impressive. 3 1
dazza 38 Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 The Australian distributor is now the New Zealand distributor. There is also now a factory built Highlander Super STOL for $120 000 US. www.justaircraft.co.nz
winsor68 Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 500kg MAX take off weight...appears it can only carry about 160kgs..
bexrbetter Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 The Australian distributor is now the New Zealand distributor. There is also now a factory built Highlander Super STOL for $120 000 US. Haha, for a moment there I thought you wrote $120,000 USD!
dazza 38 Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 500kg MAX take off weight...appears it can only carry about 160kgs.. Nope 1320 pounds LSA or 1550 pounds GA experimental.
winsor68 Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Not according to the NZ POH...available for download from the site.
dazza 38 Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 It's on the Just Aircraft American site as well as the American Kit plane magazine test on the aircraft.
Hongie Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Yep, an interview I read with the designer he said he built it to 1550 gross, but limits it to 1320 for lsa. So it's a strong airframe.
winsor68 Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 The NZ poh downloaded from their site states... Max takeoff 1320pounds MaxLanding 1320pounds Empty weight 737pounds That is 500kgs max...335kgs empty... I realize there is conflicting information ...nothing unusual in the world of kit built aircraft...
