Geoff13 Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 Pearo & Geoff you're teasing me, have not done any REAL flying since June:crying: Sorry. NAH not really. 2 1
Nightmare Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 I did my first "out of the circuit" flight since getting my RPC today. I took a leisurely flight from YBCM along Lake Wivenhoe, up to Lake Somerset, then west past Watts Bridge and Toogoolawah, then back to Coominya via Esk. Then finished up with a few touch and goes. As Geoff said, the conditions were brilliant! 4

I always say that your biggest achievement is going solo in the circuit, but that first trip away as a licenced pilot is pretty awesome too! 1 1

Tell me about it, I love every aspect of flight training so far, but being able to not worry too much about achieving learning objectives and just enjoying the flight is great!

David You flew around the back of and below me on your way home. I was just north of Bribie bridge as you guys gave your north Bribie Bridge at 2400' call. As you flew past to the north of me I stooged around and followed you to Beachmere. Been doing some testing over the last 2 days so couldn't make it over the ditch to Straddie. 1

kaz3g Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 I took the Auster to Transaero first thing today for its annual maintenance. Good flight over and landed on the gravel side of 17 without any dramas although the cloud base was still low as forecast. All the work was done and I headed off around 16:30 to go back to Shepp. It was hot and windy with twenty -twenty five knots of westerly blowing by that stage so selected 24. This strip has a bit of a hump in it at the eastern end then you come galloping downhill towards 17-35 and the substantial forested area immediately to the west of it. Very rocky climb out with gusts, rotors and the whole catastrophe. Poor old aeroplane didn't know what had happened, especially when we started to go up at 2000fpm in a giant thermal. Very bumpy trip home Nd a 20 knot westerly at Shepp when I arrived. This is only 6 knots less than the stall speed so the landing roll was quite short...about 50 metres or so. It was good to get back in one piece and even better to get the old girl (the Auster) in bed for the night. The AWPA will be. Visiting us at Shepparton on Sunday and lunch is on for anyone flying in. All welcome. Kaz 2
Pearo Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Took my fave 182 out for a spin today with a CPL student. Left YRED, tracked coastal (after a small diversion around Sunny Coast for an Airbus) to Double Island Point and Rainbow Beach. We then followed the Sandy Straights all the way to the top of Fraser Island back down to Eli Creek then went west to Hervey Bay to switch pilots. At YHBA, I took the right seat and got to do some sight seeing, starting to thing I enjoy being PAX as much as I enjoy being PIC! We booked the same plane when we got back to head to Longreach in 3 weeks. My intention with this flight is to DR all the way using paper maps only. Ipad will be stashed and G1000 will be switched off moving map mode. 3

I don't enjoy being tossed around and prefer to stay overnight and leave in the early morning calm.

It was a wild ride but it must have been a good de stressor from work because I got two greens on the BP machine when I got home Kaz 2
Cal Air 63 Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Hi All, Back at YRED this morning for Lesson 02, ( Straight and Level ) with Wayne from "Fly Now Redcliffe" in the Tecnam P92. Unfortunately another overcast, windy day with crosswinds and rain in the distance, we still managed to get up for about a hour, pottered around Bribie Island, Morayfield, Caboolture, Beachmere. I am starting to feel a lot more confident in the Tecnam now, I am progressing well overall according to Wayne, he is a great instructor, learning heaps, Lesson 03 in 2 weeks 6

You took a nice pic of Caboolture Aerodrome, get familiar with it, I'm guessing that you'll be doing a lot of touch and goes there in the not so distant future. Co-incidentally, I was up in the air as well today. I agree with you about the gusty conditions, didn't get any rain though. I had to do a go-around when a gust hit me just as I was about 30ft off the ground. I finished my hours required for my passenger endorsement, today, then took the flight test for it. Now I have my first nice little entry on the Endorsements page of my logbook. Still feeling a bit ordinary from the turbulence though. Keep up the good work Brent, this aviation stuff only gets better! Tony 2
