Well Guys & Girls I though yesterday was great flying to Tyabb with Doc

Well let me just say 4 aircraft planned to fly from West Sale to Marlo (Orbost) today

It then went to 6 as 2 from Bairnsdale tagged along

Low and behold we get to Marlo and are having a cuppa (and yes once again cucumber sandwiches) when 2 more aircraft arrive from Bairnsdale making it 8.

Thinking we are doing well 3 more aircraft 2 from Yarram and another from West Sale landed unbeknown to us they were coming msking it 11 ring ins + 1 local from Marlo (Morgan Cheetah) for a grand total of 12 on the tightly packed apron

Aircraft consisted of 1 Tecnam Sierra (mine) a C172, 2 x Foxbats and a J430 all out of West Sale

1 Tecnam Super Echo along with a Piper Tomahawk a DynaAero sportster and a CTLS out of Bairnsdale, 2 Skyfoxes out of Yarram

Was a fantastic turnout and the most aircraft I have ever seen at one time at Marlo

Here are some pics of the day

Hey Rick, I know what it's like to change flying schools and planes, it delays the process significantly, doesn't it? But look on the bright bright side, it makes you a better pilot!Tony

Hey Tony, Yeah it's taken me an extra 5hrs to get use to and get enough confidence up in the Foxbat, I find the foxbat a lot stiffer on the controls, the tecnam was very light on the controls. BUT I'm in no hurry to get my certificate, I Look at it as it's all extra hrs in the logbook !

Well Bob

As for bikkies we didn't eat any from the terminal so I don't know if any are there

We had the cucumber sangas again and I bought my own tea bags and milk

I think Peter from Marlo might have left a 2 lt milk in the fridge but I cannot promise you

Would have been great to have had you join us but enjoy tomorrow

Yeah , a transit lane through ESX would make life much easier, and safer, for RAAus pilots .... Bob

Headed to a fly in on Sunday, took off right on MCT. Wanted to head west over the ranges ( 5000ft ) but there was a fair bit over cloud covering them so headed north looking for a gap though Des and Simone in the Tecnam found a way over and down. The wax here from the west stacks up against the hills.

Murray in the C150 and Nicola and I in the Savannah VG found a way through at a low spot and headed into the NW. 50knts ground speed through the drizzle and low cloud is a little too slow even for a Savannah driver!

2.05 later we had cover the 130 nm, 58 other planes, all no doubt suckered in by what had been a good forecast.

Time came to head home, wx no better pretty constant drizzle and a bit of time detouring around some of the murkier bits but at least 100knts ground speed. From a few pireps and some other research knew the gap in the ranges was clear so then it was into the lee of the mountains and a clear run home for a welcome wine!

"I know that photos can be deceptive but I have to say I would have wanted to be on the ground long before I got to the third photo in that group."

Hi Geoff

Yes, I thought a while before I posted those pics. We were no lower than 800ft agl all the way over flat terrain with a constant supply of suitable landing spots for a Savannah VG. The odd thicker rain shower to divert around but you will note the edges of blue sky we were working towards in both pics. Nowhere ever close to losing a discernible horizon and ground reference.

A world of difference between operating in reduced visibility basically under an overcast such as here to mixing it up in cloud and mist to the deck in hill country. Would be nice to operate only ever in CAVU but on the other side of the coin some experience in inclement wx flying (within limits of course) could well be useful one day?

Whilst it's not in the microlight syllabus here low level bad wx flying was part of the PPL syllabus way back when I flew GA. Slowed down 70 odd knots, half flap etc.

Funny you should mention that - the low-level bad wx flying you mention is not currently part of the microlight syllabus but at our club we are in the process of adding it as part of our training. There have been plenty of occasions when pilots have been caught out in worsening weather in hill country and need to know how to cope.

Flying through RASH is OK if you still have VMC visibility, except that it can play havoc with the prop and the cold rain finds its way in around the back of the canopy (if you have one) and down the back of your neck.

002_wave.gif.62d5c7a07e46b2ae47f4cd2e61a0c301.gif Hi All,

Back at Redcliffe for a lesson last Friday with Peter. It has been 5 weeks since my last flight, so the goal was to complete a couple of circuits to get back up to speed and then I was to learn about handling Emergencies and Precautions in the Circuit. But my first couple of circuits were terrible to say the least; I was a bit rusty and my rudder work was really crappy at times

So after a few stern words and the proverbial clip around the ear from Pete, I managed to get my head back in the game and started to pump out some decent circuits, unfortunately because of the time it took to clear off all the cobwebs, we ran out of time, I did have a win, my last landing was the best I've done so far, Pete was most impressed, so I finished the lesson on a small high

Friday was a bit like "Grand Central" at Redcliffe, aerodrome was extremely busy, with departures, arrivals, circuit touch n go's etc, at one point there was 7-8 aircraft in the circuit, we had to extend our download leg a couple of times to accommodate the extra traffic, even a Eagle decided to say hi, flew right across our windscreen as we were climbing on the upwind leg

Well I guess third time is lucky, I did remember to turn the camera on this time, sorry I did not mount the camera quite right, the angle is a bit off, now Spielberg I am not, this was my first attempt, camera was a eBay bargain buy, video quality is ordinary, the only sound is from the built in mic, so crank up your volume if you want to hear anything, enjoy

Rather than bore you all with my entire flight, I have offered a snippet of a couple of my circuits

Brent:oh yeah:

Next Flight - Monday the 12th of September

PS:

Next Sunday the missus and I are going to our very first air show, the "Brisbane Valley Air Show" at Watts Bridge, cant wait!

We've just returned from a trip to Lightning Ridge and back home via Cessnock.

We were surprised how green it was at Lightning Ridge.

On the run into Cessnock, we went over the coal mines, northwest of Singleton.

The wide angle GoPro lenses don't do justice to the scale of these coal mines. They are enormous. I wondeer what will become of these obscene holes in the ground when the mining companies walk away from them.

That last landing was particularly sweet but tell me, where the hell do you go in a EFATO in either direction? Not a lot of options I think.

Thanks, EFACTO, other Emegencies and Precautions in the Circuit was going to be part of my Lesson Syllabus on Friday, but as I cocked up a few too many of my circuits due to being a bit rusty, I now will have to wait til my next lesson to find out, touch wood!

:cheezy grin:Strangely though, now that I think about it, I have noticed a pair of Goggles and Snorkel behind the Instructors seat, but only a pair of gum boots behind my seat 037_yikes.gif.f44636559f7f2c4c52637b7ff2322907.gif

Did my PPL in Maitland in 1980 & most of my RAAF flying out of Willytown, I too was absolutely blown away at the size & number of these open cut mines when seen from the air recently from an airliner, I suppose things change in 30 odd years, maybe the will become prime lakeside real estate one day.
