BusaKaine Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 It's great and a bonus that your wife flies with you. Last year, I made a mistake and took mine on a flight around the islands on the eastern side of Brisbane, around midday on a warmish day. Well it was a bit thermally and bumpy up there. Needless to say, she doesn't fly much with me these days. My crampy two seater has become my roomy single seater lately I was flying in that area on Friday, there was a big fire, or group of fires burning about 5nm west of Toogoolawah. :roflmao:of course! Weirdly enough, I love her company, and I'd hoped to share this awesome aviation experience with her, but alas, flying isn't her thing. Corny, I know, but it is what it is.... I'm a hopeless case....By the way, hide this post from your wife, your next post could contain the words, "and then the fight started...." Ah that explains the haze.... yes i want to keep her happy with me flying as i love her company as well. Even when i go for a ride on the Busa, i love her being there. When flying I can turn the pax headset input down if i need to ;) 2
waraton Posted September 24, 2017 Posted September 24, 2017 Heading home to Broken Hill, around 30 miles out, a bit bumpy and if anyone has any spare rain please send some our way. @4500ft 6
MichaelM Posted October 7, 2017 Posted October 7, 2017 Gareth Lacey was kind enough to take me up this morning. Heck Field to Kooralbyn and back via Q1. It was a pretty smooth flight overall, even with a bit of wind around. Had a great time - so good to see that part of the South-East from the air. Thanks again Gareth. 6
alf jessup Posted October 7, 2017 Posted October 7, 2017 Flew from West Sale today up to Stawell in Western Victoria to catch up with the crew at Stawell Aviation Services the Victorian Tecnam dealer Great to catch up with John, Val & Graeme Boatman and check out the new Tecnam Sierra MKII Comparing the 2 was interesting with a few notable changes like a slightly larger canopy/cockpit, full glass panel, landing light in the cowl where as mine is in the wing Rear side windows missing on the MKII The guys are just waiting on the rego to come through from RAA and will hopefully test fly it later in the week Great flight up to Stawell after calling in to YLTV to pick up my brother to join me for the flight, we were blessed with a 10kt tailwind heading up at 4500ft and a 17kt tailwind on the return trip at 7500ft Tracked via Port Phillip Heads both ways Must say the canola fields were in full bloom between Torquay and Stawell and it was as pretty as a picture as was Port Phillip Bay Total flight time was 5.1 hrs on the airswitch for the day and a great day was had by all 9 1
djpacro Posted October 8, 2017 Posted October 8, 2017 NSW Aerobatic Championships at Narromine recently. I left late Saturday so I wouldn't get stuck there yesterday as everyone else was. A bit of rubbish at Tocumwal but got back to Moorabbin on Sunday morning with strong winds and turbulence (along the Kilmore - Sugarloaf lane). I don't know why people organise aviation events at this time of the year down here. I'm now a fan of Avplan's weather radar overlay and traffic info! (Photos were too large to post previously) 4
facthunter Posted October 8, 2017 Posted October 8, 2017 Spring weather can be unsettled with thunderstorm activity in Victoria and August is the time of strong W winds in central NSW. It's been drought conditions for a few years in some of NSW, but some rain lately. (yesterday). General seasonal patterns produce a tendency to a certain type of weather so It's something that can be taken into account by good planners, but it's NOT guaranteed. Worth considering if planning events. Nev 1
BusaKaine Posted October 12, 2017 Posted October 12, 2017 I’m visiting the US and yesterday I got to fly out of South Valley for 1.2h. Amazing taking off at 4600’ and flying at 7100’ and only being 2500’ agl. A big change from the SEQ coastal flying I’m used to. The red on the mountains here in Utah from the Fall looks awesome. Flying over the Salt lake is truely amazing. Another flight today and I can’t wait. 4
BusaKaine Posted October 14, 2017 Posted October 14, 2017 On Thursday I got to do another 1.4h flying from Southern Valley (U42) into Provo KPVU. My first experience with a towered airport. It was a great experience very friendly and controlled. 7 touch and goes. separation. I was a bit worried about my first experience with a tower but they were very good with me and by the 3rd circuit I was feeling very comfortable taking with them. Had a few planes in circuit plus an airbus a318 took off when I was on downwind so I had to slow up and extend downwind for my 120sec. Can’t wait to get back home and do some tower work. 1

My wife hates flying, except for some crazy reason she likes helicopters. If I end up selling it will be mainly because I don't want to travel alone. Local area and circuits yes, but I don't want to overnight without her. 2

Agree, I wouldn’t want to o/n without my wife either. so I need to keep her enjoying it. 1
kaz3g Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 Just got back home from Narromine. Were you competing or judging? How did it go? I went to the Moama open day yesterday and the Edge and a couple of other wicked looking things were there doing some aeros. Nice little grass strip 5 NM due north of Echuca 16-34. Kaz
alf jessup Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 A magic day it was to be aviating today Another 3.5 hrs in the logbook for a total of 5.5 for the weekend Opposite end of the state this weekend. Last Sunday it was to Stawell, this Sunday was to Mallacoota along the glorious East Gippsland coastline what Beaten my previous best for a year with 124.9 hours so far from the start of January this year Living the dream 7
alf jessup Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 Marlo looks nice Alf!Kaz Yes looked great as I flew by
djpacro Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 Kaz, I don't see an Edge in the photos - Citabria, Extra, DR-107 etc. Not competing this year.
BusaKaine Posted October 26, 2017 Posted October 26, 2017 With the bad weather we have been having, I took the day off and went for a little Nav from YCDR to YKRY back via YKCY. A nice little 145Nm flight but it was great to take my wife up again since she missed out on my flights in the US. Kaine's Aerial Photo and Videography 1
Blueadventures Posted November 4, 2017 Posted November 4, 2017 Gary (Garfly and SkyRanger pilot) from the forum was in Mackay so we did a local 2 hours in the SkyRanger Nynja to show him some of the area between Marian to Lakeside, Heathrow and up the Pioneer valley. Weather was nice for flying and not many other aircraft hear over the radio. I'm sure Gary enjoyed seeing the area and when he's back up this way I'll fly the other ares to the south and west. Earlier in the week it looked like things would be touch and go with the rain and storms happening but the last three days had all the rain and storms to the west and north of here. Cheers 7 1
waraton Posted November 12, 2017 Posted November 12, 2017 Gum creek in an interesting landscape with early morning light. Exploring abandoned villages railway-lines and mines to the North of Broken Hill this morning. Got away early and back before the thermals started popping. Recreational flying ...... never gets old! 9
Capillatus Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 The winter has finally arrived! Today it was -10°C and sunny weather so I went for a local flight in the cold. 7
Bennyboy320 Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 Capillatus, you sir are a LEGEND, -10 degrees & only a windscreen:yikes: I’m impressed. 1
waraton Posted November 26, 2017 Posted November 26, 2017 A lovely day for a fly in Far Western NSW at Menindee today. This is Lake Menindee in Far West NSW, southern end looking north with Copi Hollow top right. Lake Pamamaroo, part of the Menindee Lake system from the east looking west with the Darling winding its way towards Wentworth. Lake Menindee is top left of this picture. Truly an oasis in the outback which has been significantly impacted by the alleged theft of significant volumes of water over many years from the river system. Multiple investigations and now a Royal Commission in SA on the way to identify perpetrators. Just another delight to come and explore, becoming more and more popular for paramotor pilots. Pictures from my phone just don't do this justice. 5
