Blueadventures Posted April 23, 2020 Posted April 23, 2020 Great shots... A "bit" of envy creeping in! If you have any shots of your steed, feel free to post them... Details in the Skyranger threads "New Nynja to the area" 3
Jerry_Atrick Posted April 23, 2020 Posted April 23, 2020 Great shot.. Nice stted you have.. May get me thinking of building my own (nah.. I don't want to end up a statistic due to a mid-air breakup or something)... Now a lot of envy kicking in! Have family not too far from you (relatively speaking) - Bowen and I think a cousin has moved toTownsville.. Nice country up there.. 1
Blueadventures Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 Fitted in an early fly this morning in nice air. Plenty of thermal activity on return before midday. Glider pilots would have been happy:) 4
pmccarthy Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 As it was 28 days since I last flew, I did a 45 minute flight this morning to preserve my engine. 3
Butch Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 (edited) As it was 28 days since I last flew, I did a 45 minute flight this morning to preserve my engine. At 6.30 this morning I was delighted to hear the sweet sound of a light aircraft doing a fly by at our small town of Heathcote. Your not to far away...…...it might have been you! Well done PM ….The spirit of ANZAC Day ?? Edited April 25, 2020 by Butch 1
Blueadventures Posted April 30, 2020 Posted April 30, 2020 Fitted new brake pads and gave them a run-in this afternoon; all good. There was a light shower of rain and a nice rainbow was seen. 4

Thruster88 Posted May 13, 2020 Posted May 13, 2020 Had a short fly this morning to celebrate the 30th anniversary of my relationship with Thruster 25-400. She is a 1988 model that was demonstrated at Oshkosh in '88 as N7008J and returned to aus in '90. We have had lots of good times together and no tears. 4

James_4870 Posted May 25, 2020 Posted May 25, 2020 Scenic around Cairns on Sunday (24/5/20). Very quite with not another aircraft to be heard. Here’s a shot of Cairns Airport from (almost) over the 15 threshold at 1000ft. 5

Lots of bird activity at Cairns, got stuck there for a couple of days after whacking several plovers just in the flair!.....they stunk the plane out, cooked bird!? 1
Sam the Swiss Posted May 28, 2020 Posted May 28, 2020 Had a marvelous flight last Thursday, from Basel over Bern, over lake Thun with interesting patterns of Sahara dust on it, along the north face of Eiger, climbing to 12'300 feet (my personal record :-)), over the Jungfraujoch, down the Aletsch glacier into the Goms valley and then over the Nufenen pass to Locarno. 8
onetrack Posted May 28, 2020 Posted May 28, 2020 Sam - Your emergency landing sites are certainly pretty low in number there! But I guess having some serious altitude on your side is a big help. Absolutely stunning scenery, we have nothing like it in Australia. 1
Sam the Swiss Posted May 29, 2020 Posted May 29, 2020 Sam - Your emergency landing sites are certainly pretty low in number there! But I guess having some serious altitude on your side is a big help. Absolutely stunning scenery, we have nothing like it in Australia. Flat land is scarce there, I agree. But gliding back to the lake and ditch is a good survivable option. There are very few mountain strips there, all very short. I guess I wouldn't dare it if I suddenly would become a glider. On the other side of the ridge it's the glacier, and I don't want to try that. Later you can try the next valley, but you are right: people flying here tend to look very well after their machines... Thanks for all the comments! 1
Flightrite Posted May 29, 2020 Posted May 29, 2020 I think flying over inhospitable terrain is all about risk. Most have flown over less than ideal tiger country. My biggest concern is not so much crashing but surviving perhaps injured whilst awaiting a rescue? Plenty of people have survived the actual impact/crash but have surcummed to their injuries waiting. Flying in company with another plane would lesson the risk. 1 1
Bruce Tuncks Posted May 30, 2020 Posted May 30, 2020 One thing about mountains is that the slope is often more than your glide-angle, so you can get more air under your wings by flying away from them.
Old Koreelah Posted May 30, 2020 Posted May 30, 2020 ...over lake Thun with interesting patterns of Sahara dust on it... Tell us more, Sam. Does the dust float on the water surface? Dust blown off the Sahara is known to add nutrients to ecosystems from the Atlantic Ocean to Central Asia. 1
sseeker Posted May 31, 2020 Posted May 31, 2020 Looking back at the burn off smoke rolling in over Jandakot. Wasn't my last flight, but it was the last flight that I took a photo 1
