K-man Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 Lake Eildon...devils river area?? Hooray! Close! We were probably over that area. Eildon Reservoir and National Park. Mt Buller. Yes it is lake Eildon. The main arm. First photo shows Eildon township and the pondage below the spillway. The second photo is a bit further North looking towards the dam wall. Thinking Mt Baw Baw for the snow? No, a bit further North than Baw Baw. The photo is from the North looking South and it is a mountain that most would see from the East. Is it the resevior at Falls Creek Vic. No, not Rocky Valley. It is Eildon Weir. So, two down, two to go.
pmccarthy Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 Two planes from Kyneton to Shep today for an excellent and reasonably priced lunch. 1
Graham Pukallus Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 Pacific Haven - Flyin photo Gallery. Well done to Bruce and Carol, great Gourmet Pizza's. Great to catchup with the Childers crew and Flyin visitors. 1

So that was you passed me just after I left there then Graham. I saw a Tecnam on Oz Runways and then your car was parked up when I got home. Sorry I missed you but wanted to get home before the weather came in. 1
eightyknots Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Three of us flew up to Millawa for lunch today. Beautiful weather and the most scenic flight. I'll see if you guys can recognise where these are taken. These are lovely pictures! 1

I'm thinking the mountain is Buller, and the range is the Cathedrals looking north to south - with the burnt out regions from Black Sat in the background. 1

And you would be spot on. Buller looks different from the North and it is also the Northerly aspect of the Cathedral Range. You are also right about the dead trees. What devastation. Each of those trees would be at least 70 years old as the area was probably burnt out in the 1939 fires. Looking across was like seeing a mountain of dirty snow, there are so many of them. Well done.
facthunter Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 More smoke haze free than normal. Nice shots.. Nev
Geoff13 Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Today was about the ultimate. My Grandkids are up on a visit from down Mexico way. Today I got to take my Grandson for a fly from Caboolture out to Cape Moreton whale spotting. We saw several pods one with about 10 whales in it and only about 1 nm offshore so we were able to get down close enough to get a good look at them. We also saw three small pods in the bay between Bribie and Moreton which I have never seen before. From there I took him for a low pass over the Tangalooma Wrecks and over the Tangalooma Flyer on her way in. Back up to height and crossing back to Bribie we were overtaken by another aircraft at our height and travelling at least twice our speed, which is something else that I have only seen a couple of times. Then over the southern tip of Bribie there was a lonely cloud at 2500 feet so we did a pass above and then another below that and then over for the inevitable circuit of the Glasshouse Mountains and home. 1.5 hours. I had a ball. Mike was mesmerised and can't wait till he is old enough to learn himself. Today for me made all the work worth it. It was without doubt one of the best days I can remember in a very long time. The buzz for me was as high as when I finished my Navs. I only see my Grandkids for a week or two every couple of years, maybe next time Kaitlin will be old enough to come for a fly. 7 1 3

We parked next to a warrior.Ak We probably arrived about 12pm. We had a Bonanza, Jab230 and the Pioneer. We left about 2pm but didn't see any other aircraft. Were you at Brown Bros. Milawa or did you fly in to Wangaratta? We settled for the Milawa platter and chips outside in the fresh air. The restaurant was booked out. I think they were hosting a hen's party. $100 coffee is one thing, $250 lunch another.
aj_richo Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Sunday flight from Callington to Kingston in SA , along the Lower Lakes and Coorong. Very pleasant conditions coastal at 2000-2500 ft. Stopped for a bite to eat at Kingston after a 10 minute walk to nearest roadhouse. Visibility was so good, on the return journey I could see all the way around the Fleurieu Peninsula to Kangaroo Island from about half way along the Coorong. On the return flight called into Goolwa for refuel/defuel, before heading back to Callington, finally packing away the Sonex mid afternoon. 6

Beautiful days flying, beautiful place, beautiful food so didn't mind paying the price. It was such a nice day, we thought we should have sat outside on the lawn instead as we were walking out.
SDQDI Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Spoilt myself by stopping work for a nice one hour local flight. A beautiful clear day! 3
Camel Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Heaps of whales migrating south of the mid north coast.
DrZoos Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Awesome flight with my more difficult half, from Port Macquarie to Manilla Gunnedah . A coffee and morning tea . Back on board over Keepit and on to Armidale then down the Macleay river to Kempsey . At Crescent head we saw so many whales in really shallow water . Then some more whale watching back to Port Macquarie. The way out was silk smooth, by mid day on the way back there where the usual speed humps. 6
DrZoos Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 What is that thing with wisk chonk written on it...is it a water tank with a catchment and flood free pump... its by the river between gunnedah and the airport in a fairly low area

DrZoos Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Sure is, and they are a sweet sweet sweet ride...just need some more cargo space and MTOW a bigger bladder ...then it would be a real long haul beast. PS theres a big whale lurking in one of those shots...can you spot it

Either way, I'm just guessing.Nice to find a fellow Alpi devotee. As to MTOW, is it 560kg? What instruments do you have? What do you call long haul? We have a range of around 550NM plus reserve. It's a shame that Michael is no longer doing the Pioneer flyaways or we would probably have met up.

Some persistent low cloud delayed our departure - which meant I didn't have enough time for the intended flight past the 12 Apostles. But you enjoy what you can and there is always next time. 6 1
