Nightmare Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 I took my first passenger, my stepson, up for a flight yesterday, after getting my PAX endorsement. He took a few pics. He told me he had a great time. 11 1
dsam Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 My little bit for Women of Aviation week. I took my niece for a coastal flight past Phillip Island and along Venus Bay where she worked on the wind farm installation there. By all accounts she had a fun trip. 6 1
cscotthendry Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 On Saturday, we did the Gold Coast loop. It wasn't a very pretty day, but we covered a few of the touristy things Up Close and personal with the high-rises (Q1 just coming into view is 1069' and we're at 1000') And on the way back at 500' We went over Dream World on the way there And Sea World too. 10 1
2tonne Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 After a couple of months of no flying, it was a great to head out from YRED this morning. A few circuits to warm up and then over to Caboolture for a few more circuits before returning to Redcliffe. Will start my nav training shortly and really looking forward to it. 6

2tonne Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Hi David, I was there by 7 am and all packed up and heading home by around 9 am. I am sure I will see you down there sometime soon. Cheers, Tony
2tonne Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 By the way, the Sportstar is looking nice. Might have to get checked out in her:plane:

Cloud base was between 1200 and 1500ft, so mostly we had to stay in the circuit area. She learned what a "Touch and Go" is now. On one circuit, when we started turning downwind, I spotted what appeared to be a big bird off to the right about the same altitude, it grew into a plane! It flew right over YBCM at 1000ft. That is circuit height!!! , and he was moving! We estimated he was flying at about 150kts. There were no announcements on Coominya CTAF which is the same as Gatton Airpark which is to the south on the same frequency, and he was coming from that direction, and transiting to the north somewhere. When we landed, my instructor commented on it as well. I may be a new pilot, but that pilot in that low-wing fixed NW undercarriage aircraft who barrelled through the circuit area at circuit height unannounced needs re-training! That was so dangerous! I recently purchased the X-Country Endorsement Training Manual, so I'm getting ready to do my navs as well Tony 2 3
Cal Air 63 Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Hi All, Back at YRED this morning for Lesson 03, ( Climb & Descend ) with Peter Lefrancke from "Fly Now Redcliffe" in the Tecnam P92. Unfortunately Wayne was a bit crook today so I had my lesson with Peter, another overcast day, Clouds about with a couple of minor sprinkles of rain while we were airborne. Overall a good day for learning a Climbing and Descending Air Exercise utilizing L= Lookout, A = Attitude, P = Power and T = Trim around Bribie Island. It came in handy as we weaved around and climbed up and below to avoid the clouds, as the lesson progressed the weather started to clear a little, so we managed to stay up for over an hour. Even though I have not flown with Peter before, he was patient, explain things clearly and overall was a great instructor, I felt at ease with him just as I do with Wayne, overall he was happy with my progress, small criticism which I am only to happy to take on board, "in the air I was too quick to get on the Trim sometimes without getting the attitude right first" but overall Lesson 03 was a hoot..... I apologize for the one only picture, I was pretty much hands on today from start to finish, but I have thousands of mental pictures to remember the day by, next lesson in 2 weeks, Easter Monday, Lesson 04 ( Turning ) 7

Pearo Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Got to experience IFR for the first time!! I am hooked. Flew out of YRED in perfect conditions with a pilot on his first solo IFR since passing the test. Never got to fly through cloud on depature, but I am sold on flying IFR, IMO its the best and probably the most safest way to fly. Despite my disappointment with not punching through cloud on departure, on descent to Emerald we did get experience the fluffy stuff. Best part about it, flying on top with out being concerned about cloud at your destination! I have the IREX books and have started the study, this was some encouragement to pursue an IR! 3
DGL Fox Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 I did another solo flight today at YRED in the Sport Star, more circuits but loving it, I have done my 2 hours solo, now onto precautionary landings etc, all I can say is what a magical day we had, the weather today was the best so far this year...I hope we have more days like today... Blueadventures Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Good news David. Nice looking aircraft. Its a great feeling when between flying you can say to yourself "How good is this". I'm not flying this weekend and hope next Sat and Sunday is as good weather wise. Regards Mike

rgmwa Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Flew from Serpentine WA (YSEN) to Portland VIC (YPOD) where my parents live, with overnight stops at Esperance, Border Village and Whyalla. About 2,900 km so far with intermediate stops at Katanning, Cocklebiddy (rough strip), Nullarbor Roadhouse (good strip), Ceduna and Naracoorte. The biggest problem was not the flying or the navigating, but the logistics of getting mogas to the plane (except for the Nullarbor, oddly enough). Nevertheless a great experience. Even made page 3 of the local paper with a photo and article (maybe I should say relegated to page 3). Highlights so far have been flying along the cliffs at the Head of the Bight, crossing the Gawler Ranges in SA, and taking several people up for local flights around the Portland/Warrnambool area. These included my dad (aged 97) - first time he's ever flown with me, one of his friends (aged 86) from Geelong who according to his wife, still hasn't stopped talking about it, my young nephew who has just got a job as an inspector with the Fisheries Department in Portland, but had never seen the coastline from the air, and one of my brother's friends who was terrified of flying but determined to have a go and is still over the moon at what he achieved. He came back the next day with an A4 page of questions about flying, and has since watched every RV12 video he could find on uTube. He's become an RV groupie, if there is such a thing. That's really what being able to fly is all about. Now I just have to get back to WA! At 7,500' NE of Esperance... Head of the Bight... Overnight stop at Border Village (luckily the winds weren't too strong)... rgmwa 12 2
IanR Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Went to the Auster/Short Wing Piper rally over the weekend at Wentworth. A very long flight in an Auster for a tall pilot ! - Camden to Wentworth was about 6 hours flying time. Of course we had a headwind in both directions. Was good to meet up with old friends. 3
Nightmare Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 I've been itching to overfly Dayboro from the airfield in Coominya, for a while now since getting my RPC. Not particularly hard, it's in between all those coastal mountains and hills, which seems to attract lots of clouds. Today it happened, the best flying conditions since I became a pilot!

pmccarthy Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 On Thursday I called in at Bendigo on a lovely clear day. Pics show work on the runway extension and a view of the closed Bendigo gold mine. ' 2
WayneL Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 Last flew the Drifter in December so I could not wait to get back in. Eleven circuits and 2 steep turns later I was a satisfied man. Nice morning with some haze under CU's and only minor turbulence. Photos off Video. Wayne 2
BJFly Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 Perfect day for flying today so scooted over to Murgon for the fly in breaky. A good turn up, and a nice variety of flying machines. Here's a couple of pics. 2
Kyle Communications Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 Danny Leach and myself also flew to Murgon. Was a nice trip out a bit lumpy on the way back to the coast. Meant to catch up Brett but got sidetracked by a few people. Your engine is very quiet although it didnt sound like full power on takeoff. I watched you head out. Beautiful aircraft you have there I had a look at it on my way past after I parked...what a fantastic build job. One of the pics shows the new hangar at Murgon...what a great concept using the 40ft containers for the sides 3
