eightyknots Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Got the new tank cover up and had to copy the inspection holes over to the old cover that didn't have it. Armrests are now on the doors. And i test mounted the cowl again to decide where to put the black line, i had to put it under the air intake. Tomorrow one of the wings are going to the painter over the weekend and the other one next weekend, so within one month she will have her wings A question about the cooling intake on the port side of the cowl: Is there a reason why you are cooling the engine this way rather than the conventional front intake?
Skee Posted August 27, 2015 Author Posted August 27, 2015 Big radiator and tight cowling, should bee some photos earlier showing it
Skee Posted August 31, 2015 Author Posted August 31, 2015 Got some parts back from the Painter today, could not wait to put on the fin and rudder, a little bad lock when tape loosened a bit so i have to sand little, how about 2000? What a great feeling seeing it coming together. Also got the springs on the exhaust secured.
Skee Posted September 6, 2015 Author Posted September 6, 2015 Got the cowl on and before that i connected the cabinheating hoses to the firewall, also some of the tape had burned really good so i stripped of some paint, lovely feeling, the paintbrush is comming:sweat: I also conected the oil cooler scat hose. and got the last wingand doors off to the painter
Skee Posted September 24, 2015 Author Posted September 24, 2015 I installed a oil thermostat, engine manuf said my oil cooling was to good, bought a ordinary Mocal OT/1, saw the same on a Rotax and it was not the expensive on ebay, not yet completed since i wanted some firesleeve over the oil hose. I wanted to remove the overspray so i roughed up the old paint and added new paint, that reacted with the old paint and made a raisin surface, it was easy to remove the paint down to the primer, i added new primer and new paint, lesson learned. And a Great Sunday Resulted in the wings getting mounted! Gathered some friends and had a good time. 1

Skee Posted October 5, 2015 Author Posted October 5, 2015 So i took everything i had and allot extra and threw it on the airplane to see the weight of it, 295kg, but the cockpit mats was still in its cutout leftovers. Still need oil and water and my limit is 297,5kg so when i sorted the mats i really think i can do it. Inspections panels for wing tanks. Roof painted. Stab/eleva wing tips. its allot of small parts to assemble.....

I can see from the photos you have made some interesting modifications.
Skee Posted October 6, 2015 Author Posted October 6, 2015 The small tank inspection panels are an icp thing, wrecked one tank panel and got one new with holes in, had to have symmetry, copied to other wing. 1
Skee Posted October 8, 2015 Author Posted October 8, 2015 I successfully upgraded the power of my aircraft with one dogpower! Installed the cabin heating. And the oil thermostat. And some more... Takes long time. 1
Kyle Communications Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 It is getting closer Dennis....how long before the first flight do you think? 1
Geoff13 Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Skee you are obviously a very smart man. A Dmotor and a Shetland Sheep dog the most loyal of friends. 1
Skee Posted October 9, 2015 Author Posted October 9, 2015 It is getting closer Dennis....how long before the first flight do you think? Hmm. WE had -8C freezing degrees today so i think not before spring , ill spend the winter with paperwork and video games instead.
Kyle Communications Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 BRRRRRR too bloody cold for me. I have worked in Canada quite a bit and mostly in winter time...-21C with a windchill of -31C....I dont know how anyone lives there. it was ok for 3 weeks at a time but not all the time. 1
Skee Posted October 11, 2015 Author Posted October 11, 2015 Weather is still ok but cold as hell.. Small work tinkering. Riveting roof. Gas return tube. Pitot & Angle of attack tubing. Petrol hose from wings Cleaning up the bridles. And Ailerons. Just assembly of stuff to get it airborn 1
Skee Posted October 11, 2015 Author Posted October 11, 2015 Just a weird thing i noticed today when sun was shining on the black surface, i got a big dent in the black leading edge of the wings, do they react on heat and expand ???? Very cold and some instant sun....
Kyle Communications Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 It can change shape...here in OZ certainly when it gets very hot but wouldnt think so where you are....just means the sheet was under some stress somewhere 1
rankamateur Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Gundy built his with dark purple leading edge and had the same trouble, don't know that the sheets ever cracked but I did upset him while we were talking about it one day by crinkling a coke can until it fell in half.
Kyle Communications Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 I was standing next to Gundy's new Sav when he finished it at Monto then there was this almighty bang...frightened crap out of me...it was his nose D section on the wing changing its shape. 1
rankamateur Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 I would like to say I got up early again to work on my plane, but alas, just bloody old cows pushing and shoving, busted their trough at dark and wasted all their tank water so we were up and at em, to fix it before the sun came up and the solar pump kicked in.

That was the one. That is why mine is all white. I did the Coke can demo at Old Station, last time I talked to him.
Kyle Communications Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 Steve are you going to be around the saturday the 24th of this month...2 weekends time. I am going to near Gunnedah on the friday to have a look at this S20...if I get time and I am not too tired was thinking of dropping in to say hi on the drive home...its not too far off the beaten track to your place
Skee Posted October 21, 2015 Author Posted October 21, 2015 Cabin heating hoses installed. All the panels around the empennage installed, damn it was tight. And control rods connected. And some other small shit... 1
