Kyle Communications Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 Mine were alu…bloody nightmare…had to be real careful…but literally had to run a 3mm tap through the lot of them to make sure they didn't bind
Skee Posted January 4, 2014 Author Posted January 4, 2014 Nice Leds but I need the 600kg chute Dennis !!!!! not sure about that over the other hose joint you have done up in the tank area I would find a proper size to size adapter joiner I think Well i only need the 500 =) , good low weight... Were the rivnuts you used steel or aluminium? I had very little trouble with the steel ones on my tanks, except if you try to pull them too hard the thread pulls off centre, but there is no need to pull them that hard anyway. Aluminium one though are a real problem, nearly useless, the mandrel tears the thread out of them really easily so the screw probrably will too. Its ALU, after a while you kinda felt when it was clashing, awful. 1
Skee Posted January 4, 2014 Author Posted January 4, 2014 Well its Saturday and i ate a big steak =) And did some electrics, man those strobes are powerful! Molex mx150l plugs are really good. 1
Skee Posted January 6, 2014 Author Posted January 6, 2014 So i spent all day finishing small details and im planning to close the front skin tomorrow. Top skin went on. As last time, the tip details wasn't a perfect fit, i had to make a few customs, also discovered i satten a bracket wrong and had to move it, anyway this tip looked better than the other, al in all it went faster this time since i knew how to do it and had help turning the wing several times witch helped allot. Last photo is of the inspection hatch console, here the manual says, use flush mount rivets, so do they want my to countersink the holes? its very unclear some times. Ended the evening with hanging on the front skin.
rankamateur Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Last photo is of the inspection hatch console, here the manual says, use flush mount rivets, so do they want my to countersink the holes? its very unclear some times. They do mean you to counter sink the holes and use flush rivets because the inspection plate, held on with M4 screws in the rivnuts, would sit up on the rivet heads otherwise. 1
Skee Posted January 6, 2014 Author Posted January 6, 2014 I asked Mark on skype but ill also check here. Did you enlarge the inspection hatch screw holes to 4mm, to get som leave, screws are a bit tight? How did you mount the Jury strut mount, with rivnuts?
rankamateur Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Only ones that were tight were where the rivnut pulled a bit off centre. Jury struts are still in the box yet!
Skee Posted January 6, 2014 Author Posted January 6, 2014 Only ones that were tight were where the rivnut pulled a bit off centre. Jury struts are still in the box yet! So you havent fastened to consoles above yet?
rankamateur Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 There is one rivet on each wing I was supposed to leave out, another one to drill out, to install those brackets. I the other holes are drilled when the jury strut is installed after the wings are attached I believe. 2
Kyle Communications Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 From memory you need to drill an extra hole....I rivnutted all of those on mine as you need to get them off if opening the tank covers...will check when I get home tonight
Skee Posted January 7, 2014 Author Posted January 7, 2014 Its 0100 and im using a rivetgun to close up the trailing edge on my wing, suprizingly no neighbours have knocked on my door yet:bash:. Also closed up leading edge today =)

Looks like you did that anyway.
Skee Posted January 7, 2014 Author Posted January 7, 2014 No rivet gun on the trailing edge, use the solid 3/32" rivets. Looks like you did that anyway. Rivet gun for solid rivets ;) It hammers. 1
rankamateur Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Rivet gun for solid rivets ;) It hammers. It is a beauty, Did it do a good job on them?
Flyinglion2000 Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 LOL that would have made a racket. A little video would be good to see how this works in practise. It was a labour to resize and fit all those pesky rivets.
rankamateur Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 It was a labour to resize and fit all those pesky rivets. I just ran a 3/32" drill in the holes in a slow cordless drill, just enough to chew the black primer out of the holes, made them a lot simpler to deal with.
Skee Posted January 9, 2014 Author Posted January 9, 2014 I just ran a 3/32" drill in the holes in a slow cordless drill, just enough to chew the black primer out of the holes, made them a lot simpler to deal with. Yup, im doin the same. LOL that would have made a racket. A little video would be good to see how this works in practise. It was a labour to resize and fit all those pesky rivets. This clip is of a good friend of me, hes also building a Sav S but is way ahead of me. Left wing hooked up by the Tv. And Right front skin on.
Flyinglion2000 Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 :roflmao:Lmao You have great neighbours Eric ! Maybe they were too scared to knock at that hour with those sorts of sounds coming from your apartment?
Skee Posted January 9, 2014 Author Posted January 9, 2014 Last wing finally done, now i need ideas how to get them 3 floors down thrue the window, anyone?

eightyknots Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Last wing finally done, now i need ideas how to get them 3 floors down thrue the window, anyone? Good question, but I don't have the answer!
Flyinglion2000 Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Block & tackle hung from a mechanics engine hoist ?
Kyle Communications Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 All depends on how big your window is…otherwise it will be an expensive exercise. Making a lifting arm is the easy part
Skee Posted January 12, 2014 Author Posted January 12, 2014 It was outmost intresting getting the wings down, and it just had to snow on the night too. ' 3
