Kyle Communications Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 Vertex aviation radios are basically NOT supported in this country stick with a IC-A6AUS 1
Doug Evans Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 I got mine online work fine just an option or enother choice :-) It just my back up unit I keep in the plane for ground work or if I have a problem with the main unit
Gnarly Gnu Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 The Vertex functions OK for me and is solidly built however I really dislike the menu structure and the tiny screen with minimal information. If buying again I would look at other brands although I'm not sure of the cost difference currently. If you operate mostly in one area this probably isn't an issue. I'm not sure if KC is referring to a possible lack of local Vertex dealers or non compliance with some Australian design rule.... if the latter I personally wouldn't give a toss - if it's good enough for the rest of the world is will be good here too.
M61A1 Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 I have an Icom A-15, it works fine, but 2 things I don't like, the lovely ergonomic shape makes it hard to mount anywhere, and the Li-po battery cannot be plugged into another power source, you have to sit the whole radio in it's 240v desk charger.
