The Power of Prayer

A house of illfame in Mt. Vernon Texas had submitted plans to the local Council for extensions to their premises as business was booming & due process was undertaken & the Council approved the proposed brothels building extensions. This brothel was located near the towns evangelical community church which had several prominent & respected community members . The churches pastor & elders decided for their parishioners to conduct a campaign to prevent this business expanding into bigger premises & the campaign was to be in the form daily prayer meetings at the church in the morning, afternoon & evening to somehow miraculously prevent the building extensions from going ahead.

 

The brothel engaged local building contractors (who were not church members) to perform these building extensions, whilst the local church members gathered each day to hold prayer meetings. When the new extensions to the brothel were nearing completion, the brothel was planning on conducting a grand opening of their new extensions with special opening prices for the local male fraternity, when suddenly a severe electrical storm struck the town during which lightning struck the brothel & levelled it to the ground.

 

Over the next few weeks the church members were bragging about the power of prayer & how their prayer meetings had been successful & their prayers had been miraculously answered.

 

After a short period of time when all things had gone quiet & returned to normal, & unbeknown to the church members, the brothel owners were consulting with their Lawyers as to what could be done to compensate the brothel for the property loss as it was not covered by insurance, & eventually the brothel owners decided to take legal action & issued a writ against the church & its members on the evidence that the church & its members were ultimately responsible for the property damage that had been occasioned to their new premises & the consequential loss suffered to the business which now had to be closed as a result of direct or indirect divine intervention from above .

 

When this matter came before the court, the churches legal team vehemently denied all liability on their part. After the old judge who presided over this case had heard both sides of the brothel owners & the churches evidence he summed up his findings as follows: " I don't know how the hell I'm going to decide this case, but it appears from the evidence, that we now have the owners of a house of illfame who staunchly believes in the power of prayer, & an entire church congregation that thinks its all bullshit".
