Deskpilot Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Impressive production numbers. Bath Iron Works delivered a completed U.S. Navy Destroyer Escort ship every 13 days at the height of WWII....... BIW alone built more Destroyers than entire Japanese Navy had afloat..... NOW YOU WILL KNOW..... "THE REST OF THE STORY" * *Bet you didn't know that Ford had its own pilots to test the B-24 Liberators it was building for the ARMY at the rate of one every 55 MINUTES!!* *A little bit of history for aviation buffs. * *This was BEFORE Pearl Harbor! Ford's B-24 Bomber Plant at Willow Run, Michigan. Henry Ford was determined that he could mass produce bombers just as he had done with cars. * *He built the Willow Run assembly plant and proved it. It was the world's largest building under one roof. This film will absolutely blow you away - one B-24 every 55 minutes. * *ADOLF HITLER HAD NO IDEA THE U.S. WAS CAPABLE OF THIS KIND OF THING. * CLICK ON THE LINK BELOW… (7+ minute video) <http://www.youtube.com/embed/iKlt6rNciTo?rel=0> 3 1
SDQDI Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Just amazing every 55 minutes. Took me longer than that to put on my wing tips
Guest Nobody Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I havent watched this video yet but I have read about it before. I like how he turned the production line 90 degrees to prevent it going over a county boundary....
Old Koreelah Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 At peak production, the Japanese could make five Zeroes per day. Just one American plant produced over 30 fighters a day.
Guest Nobody Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 The production numbers are pretty amazing. From Wikipedia: Fighters Zero 10,939 Spitfire 20,351 P-51 "More than 15,000" Hurricane 145,33 BF109 33,984 Bombers B-17 12,731 B-24 18,482 B-25 9,984 Lancaster 7,377 Wellington 11,461 He 111 6,508 Its a lot of engines. A lot of Propellors. A lot of wing spars. All to be designed, tested and build in only a few years. I this was only some of the aircraft.....
Gnarly Gnu Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Fabulous what the US government, enterprise and the American people could achieve in that era. Now it has degenerated to the extent that forget about producing a bomber every 55 minutes the Obama government cannot even organise and produce a functioning website after 3 years of development and hundreds of millions of dollars spent.
