Riley Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 A couple of months back a planning application was lodged with the Corangamite Shire council by a fellow seeking permission to extract a CAC Wirraway A-20 from 1.3 meters of mud in Lake Corangamite. Anyone know how/when it got there, why it's stayed there and whether or not his plan was approved and/or completed? Gotta be a story attached to this.

Bureaucratic decisions are sometimes unbelievable. Surely some possible collateral damage during any salvage attempts when first dicovered 8 years ago must be preferable to the decree by Mr Tonkin to leave it there to rot away to nothing. Had there been loss of aircrew involved, the refusal to disturb the wreck could perhaps be understood. At any rate, I wish the current applicant all the best in the revived efforts to retrieve and restore the machine. cheers Riley
