Nick Evison Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Hi guys i have a UK NPPL(M) this licence allows me to fly all microlights either 3 axis or weightshift. I was wondering how the Aust system works. It might be worth me getting a 3 axis endorsement while im still in the UK?? Are hours on type combined for licence currency requirements? Do x amount of hours have to obtained to gain the other certification or is it a simple you can fly it safely heres your endorsement? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Nick.
Guest Crezzi Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 The RAAus Pilot Certificate has different "aircraft groups" for 3axis, trikes and powered parachutes. There are no minimum hours required to maintain currency but a flight review with an instructor is required every 2 years. If you have multiple aircraft groups on your PC, each flight review should be in a different group See the RAAus Operations Manual http://www.raa.asn.au/safety/operations-manual/ for further info.
Nick Evison Posted January 27, 2014 Author Posted January 27, 2014 thanks Crezzi still unsure of whether to go RAA or HGFA. They both seem terrrible in differant ways. lol
Guest Andys@coffs Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Its simple...if you think 3 axis is in your future at all, then RAAus....if not then either HGFA or RAAus...... For me I switched from HGFA to RAAus well in advance of my 3 axis training because I knew the day would come eventually.... HGFA perhaps not surprisingly has a HG focus......in fact trikes...at least back when I was in HGFA...were merely a source of significant extra $ for them to throw at HG related things.....talk about getting nothing for your money except the right to actually fly...... Perhaps one more point to what Crezzi said about 2 yearly reviews....if you have multiple types and need to be current still in multiple types then a 2 year flight review is required for each type...not yr2 3 axis yr4 trike yr 6 3 axis....etc rather yr 2 both, yr 4 both etc But if for a period of time you don't want to exercise the right to fly trikes, for example, its Ok to retain the certificate for the group and in 4 years undergo the BFR and from that point on your right to go fly trikes again..... Andy
Nick Evison Posted January 27, 2014 Author Posted January 27, 2014 Thanks Andy, It seems that HGFA dont have Level two maintenace requirements. Also is their any differance between the twos training and endorsements schedule that you know of?

Guest Andys@coffs Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 hmmm Ok if that's what the Ops manual says then that's what it says....I specifically asked the Opps team when it was relevant to me (some time back and they said if I had 3 different type I needed a BFR for each type each 2 years......I guess its better for us fiscally if we don't need to do that..... Nick I left HGFA in about 2006 and haven't kept up with their changes so I'm not best placed to answer that unfortunately...perhaps an email to the HGFA asking the question....who knows you might even get a reply Andy
Nick Evison Posted January 28, 2014 Author Posted January 28, 2014 yeah like the reply im waiting for from 9 months ago. USELESS.
Guest Crezzi Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 hmmm Ok if that's what the Ops manual says then that's what it says....I specifically asked the Opps team when it was relevant to me (some time back and they said if I had 3 different type I needed a BFR for each type each 2 years......I guess its better for us fiscally if we don't need to do that..... Interesting - I've not come across that interpretation before. AFAIK the different types aren't removed from the pilot certificate if a BFR hasn't been done so perhaps its a moot point anyway. Maybe it is clarified in the new Ops Manual (or maybe not !) Cheers John
