FlyingVizsla Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Vale Col Rodgers AOPA Members, Col Rodgers our Treasurer and a Board Director passed away Thursday afternoon 30/01/14 at the Sands hospital. This is a very sad day for AOPA and for me personally, I regarded Col as a close friend and a trusted mentor. Col recruited me to the AOPA board, he then nominated me as President and supported me through a very difficult period when our office was in disarray and our finances borderline. We turned AOPA around and Col as treasurer deserved a great deal of the credit for that turn around. I could always rely on Col's advice. he was a straight talker, told you what he thought and bore no malice if you disagreed, above all Col was an Aviator in the true sense of the word. I will miss him, AOPA will miss him and GA will miss him, but his legacy will live on in the AOPA of today, a vastly better organisation than the one that Col took the reigns of, during his time as President. There is not much more to say other than Col fought the cancer that took his life, right to the end, he was always positive planning ahead and keeping tabs on AOPA's finances and policy right up until Wednesday, the day before he passed away. This is indicative of the stature of the man that Col was, never a quitter, a man of courage and dedicated to AOPA and GA. I am glad that Jeff Muller our vice President and I were able to visit him at the hospital on Thursday 23 /1/14 to present his "Life membership Award" and spend a little time with him. His passing was unexpected, I guess we were all hoping that Col would beat the cancer because he was so positive, sadly that was not the case; Vale Col Rodgers. There is a celebration of Col's life taking place at All Saints Church, Hunters Hill, NSW on Wednesday 05 February 2014 @ 11am, followed by a wake @ 1pm at Hunters Hill Bowling Club for those wishing to pay their respects Phillip Reiss President AOPA Australia 2 1
