Guest ozzie Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Sky Fighters. French movie of a pair of Mirage jet jocks saving the day. Good camera work. Worth watching even with the sub titles. 8:30pm
Mark11 Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 I'll be watching - I love the mirage He's me sitting in one at parafield airport (Adelaide) 1
dazza 38 Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 I love the Mirage too, it is the first Jet I got to swing a spanner on. It was a training aid at RAAF WAGGA for us Airframe fitters. Actually I was there during the transition between it and the Sabre being used as training aids. We got to play with both. Cool sh!t
Mark11 Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 I can't imagine trying to fiddle with all the knobs and switches at Mach 2.2 In 16min will travel from Adelaide to Melbourne!! Has enough fuel for 1 and half hours flight!
dazza 38 Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Jet engine exhausts get extremely hot when in re heat (after burner) , they can only be ran in re heat for a short amount of time, plus the fuel consumption is MASSIVE. Modern jets like the F22 have a major advantage with this as they can super cruise. Super cruise means that they can sustain supersonic speeds without being in re heat. 1
Blue Drifter Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 A clean skin Mirage has 600 gallons on board (+55 with wet leading edges), she can burn 1 gallon per second. You might not get very far, but you will get there quickly.
Mark11 Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Still faster than FA18 And can change engine in 45mins
Guest ozzie Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Have the Russkies made a movie like this and Top Gun? Be cool to see footage of Flankers and Migs going hard
Mark11 Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Enjoyed the movie a lot The striptease was a bonus 1
facthunter Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Yeah The Corvair was nice. If a skinny chick is going to drape herself over something, it might as well have class. Nev 1
Old Koreelah Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Classy fighter flying and awesome landscapes I hadn't associated with France. We rarely see an alternative to the American perspective. The movie was really more about showing off French aircraft. Interesting to see the impact Australia's Mirage purchase had on their industry.
Guest ozzie Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 The French make pretty good movies. The Assassin was originally French then copied by the US. The restaurant scene was much better in the french version and overall better made.
rankamateur Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 My wife and I both loved the movie, she did give me a real funny look when I turned the volume down. All that french language was distracting me from the subtitles and I didn't get time to watch all the flying! 1
Marty_d Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Tres bon! I think the flying sequences had Top Gun beat. Plus as it was all Mirage on Mirage (aside from the sequence with the Alpha Jet), they didn't have to pretend that a Northrop F-5 was a MiG... Yeah The Corvair was nice. If a skinny chick is going to drape herself over something, it might as well have class. Nev I liked the striptease too, but thought it was a Corsair not a Corvair Nev... I know they both have air cooled engines but the only way a Corvair will fly is if you drive it off a cliff...
Guernsey Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I can't imagine trying to fiddle with all the knobs and switches at Mach 2.2In 16min will travel from Adelaide to Melbourne!! Has enough fuel for 1 and half hours flight! No problem getting to Natfly no matter where it was held. Alan.
facthunter Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Corsair it is . No I wasn't distracted, just lazy, (Thinking of a car engine we use) Nev
shafs64 Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I read a few years ago that there some people where restoring a mirage to flying status. Does anyone have anything about this.
