bigbuck13 Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I'm Charlie and I have recently returned from living in China for 7 years. No recreational flying there! However, I spent considerable time on the Internet researching various homebuilt aircraft with the intention of keeping busy building one on my return to Canada. I just completed building a workshop in which to undertake the project and am now trying to finalize my decision. Since my home is on a lake and the closest airport is 30 minutes away it will ultimately have to be an amphibian. Ideally I would build a Savannah S and power it with a Viking engine (Honda conversion by Jan Eggenfeller) but ICP North America seems to be very weak and Jan does not have a great past record. My other choices are a Zenith CH750 or a Challenger 2. Additionally, I will have to re-qualify as a private pilot as I have not flown since 1975 at which time I enjoyed owning and flying a Piper Colt. I am in good health and have passed the medical and I am 67 but optimistic that I will be able to complete and spend some time flying it. At any rate I am sure I will enjoy just building. I am looking forward to communicating with some of you with the same interests. Hope you are having a great day! 1
Mark11 Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Welcome All good planes you listed What about a seamax? Mark
Neil_S Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Hi Charlie, and . I hope you find a good plane to build, and enjoy flying her when finished. I assume you are aware of EAA in the US, if not then I would highly recommend joining as you would then have access to loads of useful info wrt building and flying, as well as their forums too. Keep us posted with your progress! Cheers Neil
