zodiac3813 Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Hi Everyone, just wondering if anyone out in RectreationalFlyingLand has ever connected a Sandia STX165R transponder to the MGL Xtreme EFIS? The latest firmware upgrade allows the Xtreme to send altitude and position information directly to Sandia's modestly priced Mode C transponder without the need for a separate Altitude encoder. However, the MGL wiring information seems to relate more to their larger EFIS units... does anyone have any further info/experience? Cheers, Jim (Skyranger 19-8278)
Kyle Communications Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 This what I will probably be using myself….I will look into it. I have 2 Xtremes in the aircraft. One for main display the other setup as a EMS but also will act as a backup for either of each other. I have been looking at the Sandia myself as it is a lot cheaper than the rest….the MGL forum would be a good place to start though Mark
Kyle Communications Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Here is the wiring for it..not sure about the Efis setup yet STX-165R_Schematic.pdf STX-165R_Schematic.pdf STX-165R_Schematic.pdf
Kyle Communications Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 Jim The altitude encoder in the Sandia is TSO'd and is far more accurate than the one in the MGL
Kyle Communications Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 I also downloaded this from a guy on the MGL site..it is for the IEFIS. But it looks like the MGL has no control over the altitude encoder which is a good thing maybe just the squawk code Sandia installation.pdf Sandia installation.pdf Sandia installation.pdf
