Guest ozzie Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Just reading about a record attempt held overhead of Lethbridge. The attempt was to break the current record of 408 consecutive rolls. Looks like it has been unofficially shattered with 987 consecutive rolls. The pilot was chasing one thousand when the engine on the Pitts decided to throw up. Apparently the strip at Lethbridge is out for repairs so the pilot asked for permission(?) to do am emergency landing in a paddock. Didn't go so well when it tripped over a rock onto it's back. Probably hear more on this soon. Congrates on breaking the record. shame about the ending tho.
PA. Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Didn't go so well when it tripped over a rock onto it's back. Just a Victory Roll. 2
Marty_d Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Beat the hell out of Chris Sperou's effort at Skyrace Tasmania a few years back in a Pitts. He took off, rolled inverted and "landed" - still inverted. 1
Tomwantstobeapilot Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Not the best end to the flight, but a pretty impressive effort anyhow! What was the record: most consecutive rolls, or the most rolls in one flight? I've heard both. Beat the hell out of Chris Sperou's effort at Skyrace Tasmania a few years back in a Pitts. He took off, rolled inverted and "landed" - still inverted. My parents were at Skyrace that year, Dad often mentions this incident I wish something would replace Skyrace, 'bout time we got an Airshow! 1
Marty_d Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 My parents were at Skyrace that year, Dad often mentions this incident I wish something would replace Skyrace, 'bout time we got an Airshow! Don't think that'll happen again with the current insurance / public liability / safety nightmares that would accompany any airshow, let alone a pylon racing event. Tassie just doesn't have the population to make that viable, even with interstate visitors I don't think the level of interest would be enough to tempt any promoters. Pity though. All we get nowadays is the Roulettes on occasion - and don't get me wrong, the PC-9 is a beautiful plane and the Roulettes are a magnificent team - but some variety would be nice. 2
