Robert, is a guy I`ve known for many years ( One of my students from way back when). On Friday,he and his wife were driving up from Townsville for the weekend, to see his daughter in Cairns, so they came in to say G`Day. I offered to take them flying over the weekend and they jumped on it. Saturday turned out good flying weather so we went Drifter flying.

Robert with his wife and daughter..His daughter is an airline hostess. Both his wife and daughter had never flown in an Ultralight before. They both loved it. Roberts daughter told me it was another thing on her bucket list that she had just done. All up? An enjoyable day had by all.

Ps, I have their permission to post the photo.

Yep, Saturday was an awesome day for flying in the Drifter. I manage to squeeze 6 hrs of flying in. Two trips in different directions, and with different company, flew solo both times (my daughter had to stay home and clean her room), I was accompanied by a friend in a X-Air in the morning, and another with a Drifter in the afternoon.

Skirting round some tiger country, and the X-Air in the lead.

Awesome photos! After my trip to Qld for the Clifton Fly-In the previous weekend, last Saturday was a 35-minute hop over the Liverpool Range for morning tea at Middlebrook Station. The strip is north-south in the lee of a ridge off the main range. Mild northerly caused what the locals would call minor turbulence, but it was rough enough to cause me a bounce and go-around. (Flying mainly in the flat open country west of the range has made me a bit soft.) Met some very experienced aviators with plenty of stories to tell. Among the aircraft was a super cub with insanely large tyres. Sorry didn't take any pix.

Great topic and fantastic to see some great photos of what some of us were doing over the weekend.

I also had a great weekend.

Firstly attended the monthly breakfast at Dunwich North Stradbroke on Saturday. Go there quiet often but didn't take any photos.

On Sunday attended a breakfast at Cooloola Cove near Tin Can Bay.

What attracted me to the Cooloola Cove event and I am sure most of the other pilots was the weather and the Venue.

A first for me to attend a Fly In Breakfast being held at a Restaurant being the Tin Can Bay Marina Bar & Grill.

We were bussed from the Cooloola Cove Air Strip into Tin Can Bay.

Rod the organiser did a fantastic job and we had to take our hats off to the staff at the Marina Bar and Grill as Rod had 50 as a number attending but 85 turned up.

I have attached some photos.

1st is some of the 40 odd planes at the Airfield.

2nd is the line up at the Marina Bar & Grill

3rd On departure overflying Double Island Point where there 4x4's everywhere.

4th Flew down the coast past YBSU approaching Point Cartwright

5th Approaching Moffat Head near Caloundra with Bribie Island in the background.

Yup, I did it! By myself this time... YWOL to YGLB and back... Bit bumpy in parts, but overall a great day. Had the pleasure of meeting fellow forumite Eric and seeing his (new to him) J170.

Was going to upload a couple of pics but they appear sideways from the ipad, so ill do it tomorrow from my PC.

I figured it must've been Straddy breakfast time a again, the was a lot of radio traffic for Dunwich Saturday morning. Most of it loud and clear west of Toowoomba.

Thanks Doug for mentioning the Cooloola Cove Breakfast and flyin, I counted some 50 aircraft, 10 of which were Savannahs.

Here are some of our photos of the day and we too went home via Double Island.

Well done and thanks to Rod and his many helpers.

Yes Graham, great day and great photos. There must have been anywhere from 40 - 60 4x4's on the beach at Double Island Point. Great view from the air.

A new experience for me.....first take off of the day, look down, no airspeed indication. Too late to abort, so I flew the circuit by feel, and I didn't die. The pitot tubing had detached from the indicator. That prompted me to spend an hour or so playing around with different failure scenarios.

Not much fun. I had problems with mine a while back and learned to fly without it. Teaches you to listen to engine and wind and look outside more.

Today i had a wonderful sunset flight over central Fraser Island. Departure and return was Maryborough. Also flew on Wednesday morning to top of Fraser Island, and last Sunday to Childers Wings and Wheels. Each time i had a different friend in the back seat. Might need some solo time soon.

I've spent many happy hours flying over the beach from Noosa to Double Island Point. Sometimes the tents and 4x4s are stacked end to end the whole length of that beach....they call it "getting away from it all" 008_roflmao.gif.692a1fa1bc264885482c2a384583e343.gif

The missus and I went up for 2 hours on Saturday and would have gone to the Gatton brekky on Sunday if not for Mother's day commitments.

Met a couple on Saturday and mentioned I had to be up early as I was going flying and she was super keen to fly, so I called my instructor and organized her a TIF. She said it was the best day she has had all year. It's nice to be responsible for a woman's best time day of her year.

Quirindi Aero Club fly-day 10-4-14

Fifteen aircraft and thirty people turned up to our second gathering, in near-pefect flying weather. A layer of high cloud shaded the ground enough to dampen thermals and keep the air smooth.

Aircraft flew in throughout the morning and taxied up to join the gathering and meet like-minded people. It is surprising how many flyers there are in our district.

A contingent from Scone Aero Club crossed the range, meeting some challenging turbulence on the way.

Aviators and interested visitors spent hours inspecting and discussing aircraft. Quite a few got to try out someone else's plane and took off with a new friend for a flight around the district.

A good variety of flying machines were present, from weight-shift trike through wooden Jodel to a go-fast RV-7. Most abundant were Short Take Off and Landing (STOL) aircraft. Several different types of gyro, a couple of Skyfoxes, an Aeropup, a Savanna, a nice new Hornet with tundra tyres and a Piper Cub with huge tyres which landed on the ploughed paddock.

The ages of those present ranged from 4 to over 80. It was good to see a number of young visitors with an interest in aviation.

Local flyers are planning to cross the range for Scone Aero Club's Open Day and barbecue on June 1 and there are plans for future trips to Lightning Ridge and beyond.

The club is having Fly-Days the second Saturday of each month. Visitors and new members are very welcome.
