How to remove inspect nose wheel suspension?

Could someone point me to right direction , how to support aircraft with front suspension removed.I have not built it so my knowledge is limited do not want to make any mistakes

Thanks

Hi Jerzy

When working on the nosegear of the Sav I just use a saw horse (saw stool, trestle??) high enough to get the tyre off the ground and with a block on it with cut outs for the angles and omega. The idea is to only support along the firewall bottom and not on the other bits. make sure to securely chock the main gear so it can't move off the trestle.

That's how I do it anyway, good luck.

Thank you very much Rick for the idea , I was thinking about this , someone suggested weight attached to the tail , but not sure about the stress on the fuselage.

My problem is suspicious noise from the front gear`while taxing . I decided to have a good look to make sure that there is no problem there.

You should be able to raise the nose of your Sav and rest it on its tail if it is balanced correctly when it is fully assembled. Even with the motor and everything ready to fly. Mine has just spent a couple of months like that while getting repaired and I had to put a new front floor and nose wheel in it

i have to do the same in the next week or so, replace the bungee on the nose gear, its almost 1000 hrs old, still in pretty good condition, but would rather replace it anyway. mine sits on its tail esily as well, but i do put supports under the firewall just to be safe. as for actually removing and replacing the bungee, im not so sure yet myself.

John Gilpin designed a bungee remover/installer a few years ago for the Sav...I borrowed it from him and copied it and made 2 of them. They were designed for the older ones engine mounts my mount on the XL is a little different but I managed to get it to work no problem. Makes changing the bungee a easy exercise with the engine in place. I left it in the hangar I will get it and take a few pics for you its easy to make if you can weld. You just need some 19mm square steel tube and some 19mm x 3 mm steel strip

mines an older model with the old bed type engine mount. pictures or plans would be awesome for the bungee changer.. or how much to buy one from you?? as unfortunately i dont have easy access to welding facilities, but if it could be bolted together, then i can make one.

I believe it was born in 2009 reg. 52-97 . It has got 340 hrs on the clock and I am very happy with it .

I am still learning about bits and pieces , recently refitted spill trays under carburators and replaced radiator rubber couplings.

Once I figure out how to attached photos I will .

Regards

George

HI, I am replacing the bungee on my savannah and would like to know if you could send some picture of the bungee remover please? Any assistance is greatly appreciated. No need to remove, just need an easy way to fit a new one.

I have mine sitting at home but will not be back until next weekend then I can take some pics and measurements for you...The classic has a different mount..the ones I made copies of were for the classic mount or bed mount my XL with the ring mount needs a different end on it..I have used it to remove and replace my bungee it made it very simple and easy I just need to get around to modifying mine

An easy way to replace a bungee I have done a few times is to install new bungee in position and tie a loop of wire around the loose end, then with a short piece of pipe and an assistant on the other end end of the pipe you lift the bungee to its final position on the nose leg. Works easy and no special devices needed, Mcguiver style.

Hope you understand that description.

Cheers

My bungees are circles and they take a fair bit of persuasion to stretch them over the keeper without pinching.

My LAME had a neat tool made up that you use with a car jack to stretch it until it can be levered across onto the keeper.

Lot of energy in one of those things so don't stand over it while the job is in progress.
