Airport metals?

I ordered 4 sheets of 0.016" and a sheet of 0.025", rolled and boxed. When I got it the box had forklift tyne holes in it despite the box having a not forklift sign on it ( not Airport metal's fault), but when I opened it some time later, every sheet of 0.016" had a crease where it had been mishandled prior to rolling while the outside layer of 0,025" was undamaged.

When I spoke to the sales people at Airport metals, the response was "Well, what do you want us to do about it?".

I hate the fact that airport metals is the only supplier of many products, because if the was another option I'd certainly use them instead.

The suppliar in this instance wasn’t airport metals but had the same attitude. Showed 0.025 on the invoice and it is very clear in the photo that it’s 0.020. I had specified 0.025 regardless of anything else and when brought to this person’s attention all the promises under the sun to rectify until yesterday with the suppliar trying to claim that it’s 0.025.

I had the same problem with creased sheets from Airport Metals. Fortunately I was able to cut what I required avoiding the creases.

I understand that mistakes sometime happen, but the attitude that went with it was inexcusable.

I get the impression that small order customers are considered an irritant.

Especially when they don’t live near the offending supplier in my case about 4 hours away. He still maintains that he has supplied 0.025 even though the photo shows differently.

With most people running away it looks like they heard there is more polishing to be done soon?

Not at all they are just stunned by the beauty and don't wish to destroy the vibe with their ugly mugs in the reflection.

I got mine from Performance Metals in Sydney, shipment was perfect.  (That was about 9 years ago, don't know if they're still in the business of 6061-T6).

Recently got a small piece of 1.75" 4130 chrome moly tube  from Andrews Race Cars, great service and it arrived very quickly.

Good to see you back on here Bex and thanks for the compliment but I’ve certainly had a helping hand on these tanks (thanks pylon500) but I’ve learned to mix the sealant & apply it as well as learned about fuel caps, fuel vents, fuel level senders, etc.  Its all too big and advanced To turn back now even if I wanted to!

Just a few more rivets and wings being set up for the future at the moment. I’d love to post a picture or two but every time I load one it tells me it is too large. So alas I can’t load a photo ☹️

Try doing a copy of the image, open the copy, then resize it, I do pixels 4,00 and change to 1000. That size is then ok.

Not sure which photos/movies Planet47 wanted to put up, but we have managed to get this far...

(Didn't realise I shook this one till I blew it up):nerd:

This is the first stage of folding the wings; Unpin rear spar fitting, roll wings forward (pictured), then swing wings back along fuse.

The cutout inboard on the leading edge is where the tanks will go, and the open skin on top is just where we're accessing the spar fittings as it goes together.

Can't actually swing the wings back yet as we've totally run out of room.
