Guest Maj Millard Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 The damaged remains of a Sonex recently involved in a landing accident In Ingham NQ have been sold and acquired by a retired Grade A sheet metal worker., who plans to repair the damaged aircraft and return it to flying status. The gentleman has just completed a long term build of a modified Hummel bird, so the Sonex will be a good follow on project. The Sonex taildragger was crashed on landing by the low time inexperienced pilot. It is equipped with a fuel-injected turbocharged VW based engine and had a well appointed cabin and panel. The damage on the Sonex is extensive but the new owner feels it is well within his expertise to tackle the rebuild.......Maj.....
bexrbetter Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Did anyone tell him that prop is made of wood? Please imagine laffing face after that comment because 90% of the time no smileys appear for me to choose from. 1 1
rankamateur Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Good that the pilot got another chance as well! 4

aj_richo Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 "Those Sonexs have an interesting and distinctive shape!" ..when they're not bent! Having built one, its going to be a big job to de-manufacture, then re-manufacture the airframe. Sonex normally limit one set of extruded spar caps per plans serial number, so hopefully he can get a new set to replace the damaged ones. (Making an assumption as its seriously missing some dihedral!)

The plane he just finished...a modified hummelbird...
