JUSTNUZZA Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Is it required to get factory approval for a 24 rego lsa to have Rotax reccomended modifications done to the engine ?
David Isaac Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 I cannot give you an authorative answer on this but it would seem to me the LSA manufacturer would require the certified engine and if any ADs or recommended modifications were notified by the engine manufacturer, them logically they would need to be done to maintain the certification without to specific approval by the LSA manufacture. The only exception that I would possibly see may be if modifications were required to the airframe around engine attachments or exhaust or intake systems that were part of the aircraft structure.
JUSTNUZZA Posted July 11, 2014 Author Posted July 11, 2014 I am looking at installing the soft start module and maybe the Tanis engine preheater kit to help with cold weather starting issues.
David Isaac Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 You might need to check with the manufacturer, they sound more like options and accessories, than required modifications.
djpacro Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Seems to me that the LSA rules are quite straightforward and clear on this point - suggest you read the relevant CASA Advisory Circular. Seems to me that a LSA manufacturer would need to issue their own SBs to authorise SBs etc from engine and prop manufacturers etc. (just my opinion from memory which is known to be faulty so repeat my suggestion to read the AC)
David Isaac Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 I suppose the whole LSA thing becomes problematic if the manufacturer is no longer around.
djpacro Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 CASA rules cover that situation (and you won't like it).
David Isaac Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Hmmm ... Perhaps why I would never own an LSA ... 1
