sparksdusty Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Hi I am new to this forum and love flying. In 2012 I achieved 5 hours solo flying a gazelle and absolutely loved it. But I had to give it away due to personal reasons. I want to get back flying again but finding it daunting doing it alone. Does anyone have suggestions for this it was a something we did together now that isn't possible. How do I find the courage to fly alone. I live on 100 acres in Bullio. My next door neighbour's is selling his 100 acres which has the airstrip. The estate has right of use. If interested it is in bullio and around 250'000 I would love it if a flying family/person bought it so I'm not flying alone. Would love any advice. Regards 1
Old Koreelah Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Welcome to the forum, Sparksy. Good to see you getting back into the sport. Your caution is a good thing; to fly safely you need to get a lot of things right, and it looks like you have made a great start with the right mental attitude. Where's Bullio? Are you within reach of an aero club or school where you can build up your confidence?

sparksdusty Posted July 31, 2014 Author Posted July 31, 2014 Thanks for the reply. I was learning to fly from goulburn. Bullio is in the southern highlands of nsw. Since the post I have booked another lesson which I am really excited and scared about. I guess it's letting go of a dream of flying with a flying partner. I have a extreme fear of heights and have done well to get this far. It took me longer than most. I guess I need to find out if I still have the same desire to fly without a partner. 8 am sat I'll find out if I can do it
SDQDI Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Try not to put too much expectation on yourself for the first lesson and go with the aim to just enjoy it after all flying is meant to be fun:thumb up:. As a side note search for the thread 'is it me' you will find that a lot of us have a fear of heights or a fear of falling from heights but we all get on ok in a plane. When you go for your lesson ask about aero clubs in the area the instructor will know of one or two and try and get in touch with like minded people as that helps increase flying pleasure:spot on: 2 2

We are a mixed bunch drawn together by our love of aeroplanes. We often disagree with one another but seldom does it affect our continued involvement and contributions to our collective knowledge. I certainly hope to hear of your re acquaintance with an old love and determination to be a formidable aviatrix. Best wishes with the next flight Kaz 1
rgmwa Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 With 5 hours solo experience, you have already proven to yourself that you can do it, so I'm sure you will be fine on Saturday. Just relax and enjoy it. Flying with an instructor will give you a lot of confidence too. Good luck. rgmwa 1
Chocolate Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Check out Australian women's pilot assocn Facebook page. Always someone to talk to who is willing to encourage and assist.
Old Koreelah Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Check out Australian women's pilot assocn Facebook page. Always someone to talk to who is willing to encourage and assist. There are some good people in that group. My wife had a bad flying experience when young (d1ckhead pilot showing off) and developed a rigid phobia; she couldn't fly for decades. Thought we'd never travel, but a few years ago she did the "Fearless Flyers" course. She still has to put in a big effort, but now we regularly travel by air. 2
