ASIC

I have a friend who intends to fly my Tecnam toWhyalla in SAthis coming weekendProblem she has no ASIC and cannot land at Whyalla Airport can anyone suggest a suitable landing strip in the vicinity

Surely some common sense could be used not everyone landing at whyalla as a passenger has a ASIC card you having one and escorting her should be enough

As stated my friend is flying my Tecnam to Whyalla She has no ASIC and wants to stay leagle without having to pay a fine no one is flying with her with an ASIC

 

so an alternitive airstrip is required in reasonable proximity to Whyalla

Also it may be worth calling. A freind told me some airports will accept you without an asic as long as they know you are coming. They will apparently escort you???

 

ive not tried this but it could be worth a phone call??

I got my first one recently after avoiding ASIC airports up until now.

 

If you had to fly into Mudgee, say, to get some work done on your avionics, a call to the workshop first would ensure that you get an escort from your aircraft to and from the workshop.

 

Some think it OK to just pull up and refuel and leave with no ASIC without going near terminal buildings. But, still a big fine if challenged.

 

Hopefully, something good will come out of the Aviation review and we'll see the end of these things for low risk regional airports.

 

It may be that you get your photo on your Pilot Cert card and have to do a security check at least once but that should be the end of it.

Hello Don, the locals were complaining about it being chilly this morning: it was about 24 degrees but quickly got over thirty. I was looking forward to catching up with Facthunter, who is due about 24-8-14, but work is taking me away that weekend. We were planning to attend a get-together of 31 Squadron at Coomalie, with vintage bikes due. They are probably the group Nev is part of.

The reason you are not asked to show your ASIC is that for it to be legal, you have to display it. If you have to be asked to show it, it only means that you are not displaying it and that can get you a hefty fine. It was bad enough when Gladstone insisted on the ASIC for anywhere on the aerodrome, but now they charge a landing fee as well. so there is no way I go there to get my fuel. just do a slightly longer hop and get it at The Old station

The plastic card should be issued no more often than after 5 years or earlier if an endorsement is added (or removed). Still renew membership just don't send new cards every year.

Paper works for me. With a membership of 10,000 we should be able to cut a deal to have a little sticky peel off thing on the receipt to say you are paid up + even easier with a 2 year membership. we do need to be able to easily inform our plane suppliers and schools that we are current to overcome liability issues. With CASA licences your paper medical confirms, more or less, your currency and they are valid for 4 years, 2 years or 1 year, depending, as the licence itself is for life unless cancelled for some violation or infraction - lunacy is normal for pilots, unless you get caught.

Hey Kaz, enjoy the water. You're not far from Coomalie airstrip, wartime base of 31 Squadron. On the 23rd they are expecting 100 vintage and veteran motorcycles plus a fly-in, etc. I assume Nev on his old red Indian will be part of the group. Sounds like a great day, but I can't get there.

Col, my liking for plastic was with the idea in mind that it could have a picture on it like a MV licence. It could double as/replace the ASIC. But a two or more year membership renewal will be introduced (again) soonish and I'm betting the accountants get the accounting right this time.

Nothing seems too easy for our office producers. Also not all members would require an ASIC so why be burdened with extra costs, when those who do can apply for one already.

 

The issue is an ASIC should only be required within Restricted Areas, such as terminals and RPT aprons not at the GA fuel bowser. For that a Photo Graphic Pilots ID should be sufficient.

The idea would be that the pilot cert with a photo ID would be instead of an ASIC. It could require a clearance when you first get your pilot cert but not again for 10 years like your passport.

Can someone remind me which dopey as dogsh!t Liberal or Country Party minister was responsible for the ASIC, please.

 

Don, you have to remember that we are not the political (or NewsCorp) elite so therefore we cannot be trusted - given their druthers they would probably want us to be security cleared every week - or just locked up.
