ave8rr Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 I would like to know that if you had a choice of early ALW Lightwings (GA/GR), would you choose one fitted with the Rotax 582 or the Aeropowered version?
seb7701 Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 I'm far from a LW expert, but the last Aeropowered GA I inquired about was around a 60kt cruise, which didn't exactly thrill me for a 4stroke. If you refer back to some recent Lightwing threads, Maj MILLARD and others explained the diff between the GR and GA, with the GR sounding like a better choice. If I could find a sound GR582, I would be very interested, as they seem to happily zip along around 70kt! 1 1
Dafydd Llewellyn Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 The 582 will spin a larger propeller than the aeropower; at the slow speeds these things fly, that makes a big difference.
eightyknots Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Fuel consumption wise, the AeroPower may be better, being a four-stroke.
Dafydd Llewellyn Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Depends how fast you get there, doesn't it? The CA21 Skyfox had an Aeropower, and cruised at close to 70 knots, as I recall, tho it was more comfortable at 65 or so. It was a smooth, civilised sort of an engine, but you had to let it climb in its own sweet time. 1
