eitai2001 Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Hi Guys. I'm moving across to Melbourne from South Africa. I'm looking forward to getting involved in general aviation in Aus! I've currently got a South African PPL and a US PPL validated on my SA one. I plan on moving my SA PPL across to an Aussie once I'm settled in with a job and some cash inflow. I'm initially going to be staying with my sister right next door to Moorabbin airport. Any tips for integrating into the Aussie GA community? Do you guys have any clubs or anything? I'd like to make some friends in the aviation side :) Regards Itai
Gnarly Gnu Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Welcome Itai! Be aware that some would argue Melbourne is not really part of Australia! Also SA has a different meaning here. All the best!
metalman Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 http://ycem.com.au G'day , this is a pretty active club and school as well, competitions once a month , and a few fly always through the year Matty
eitai2001 Posted August 14, 2014 Author Posted August 14, 2014 Awesome thanks for the links. Strange question, but are there people my age at these flying clubs? :)
metalman Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Awesome thanks for the links.Strange question, but are there people my age at these flying clubs? :) Physical or mental age,,,,,not sure about royal Vic but at Coldstream there's a fair mix of ages, From teens up to 70's ( possibly 80's),,,,,,,most of the older guys are really good value !
eitai2001 Posted August 14, 2014 Author Posted August 14, 2014 Thanks. That's great to know. And I definitely agree, I love the stories of the older crowd. (My Aero's instructor in the US was around 85 years old, very interesting chap!) ... But I'm also hoping to make some friends my age in the aviation scene, people I can go out with ... seeing as I have to start afresh :(
