reggie Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Plane hits hangar east of Perth Published: 3:07 pm, Friday, 5 September 2014 WESTERN AUSTRALIA 4:30pm September 5, 2014 Pilot crash lands, gets wedged between two hangars The small aircraft is a Mooney M20J. 9NEWS 2 0 2 The female pilot of a light plane that crashed into two hangars east of Perth has walked away with only minor injuries. The small aircraft, a Mooney M20J, hit the Northam Airport hangars mid-morning today and leaked fuel. Parts of the airport have been evacuated and the airspace around it has been restricted due to the spilled fuel. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau said the collision occurred during the initial climb after a touch-and-go landing. The light plane became wedged between two hangars. Police said it appeared the 27-year-old pilot started having trouble controlling the aircraft, which left the runway and became wedged between two hangars. The pilot, who was the only person on board, was taken to Northam Hospital as a precaution. Leaked fuel has sparked safety concerns. Emergency services will allow workers to return to the hangars once the area is declared safe. The ATSB said it had launched an investigation into the accident, with a report expected to be released in several months. Witnesses are asked to contact the ATSB on 1800 020 616. The collision occurred after a troubled take-off. Additional reporting by AAP. © AAP 2014 WESTERN AUSTRALIA ACCIDENTS Email your news tips Do you have any news photos or videos? red750 Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Well I'll be... They didn't call it a Cessna. Who would believe!
Old Koreelah Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 How in hell did it get into that position (did it drop in backwards?) and what bird laid that egg? 1 3 1
pmccarthy Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 However it was done, it is the perfect technique for a forced landing in dense forest. No forward velocity at all. 1 1 1

DonRamsay Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 Wings appear to be largely intact but hangar demolished?
Old Koreelah Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 Wings appear to be largely intact but hangar demolished? ...aircraft are built to a higher standard than hangars. It looks like the right wing hit the roof and the engine rebounded off the egg, punching the left wing sideways into the other building, the right wing coming back down behind its impact point. I'm trying to relate this to the old "drop an egg off a building without it breaking" challenge.
dunlopdangler Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 I reckon it was maternal instincts taking over and she wanted to sit and hatch that egg 2 1 1
