Murrayfield WA, Royal Aero Club of Western Australia. www.royalaeroclubwa.com.au

 

 

 

Fly the circuit from a different perspective. Its a bigger difference than you might realise; flying from the right hand seat. Not only have the Instruments all been moved but the throttle and yoke are in the wrong hands as well. BBQ breakfast 0830. Briefing 0900.

Good to see the field being opened up. It was pretty much closed to recreational aircraft (RAA) for a long time....

Royal Aero Club of WA owns Murrayfield - as for recreational aircraft being welcome - I don't know.

 

 

 

Their on-line monthly magazine is a good read - note they have graduated some RPL's already. http://www.royalaeroclubwa.com.au/content/page/tarmac-topics-2014.html Another interesting point in the October magazine, they have noted a rise in people taking TIFs purely for the thrill seeking experience, thus lower numbers converting to students.

 

 

 

I don't guarantee any of the events I post here, I simply harvest information from various sources when I can, and post the most interesting here. RACWA are very active and offer members a lot of options, but they are a GA school. Where they don't say their events are limited to members or GA only, I list them here.

F/O's get their own set of instruments, brakes nosewheel steering wheel (sometimes). Completely spoiled. The instructor is sitting there with bugga all but experience. You don't need all those dials anyhow. You should be looking outside. You have the horizon, the sunshine, sky and other traffic.Nev

Nev, only a light hearted toung in cheek comment, I think ????? we have all flown from the right hand seat at some stage [well at least a lot anyway?]

Bit of TIC and bit of real, Frank. Surprising what you can do with hardly any instruments in front of you. Just a glimpse across at something now and then. to check can be enough. Some RHS instrumentation in U/l's is non existent. Over the years I think I have become more adaptable and learned to not let differences throw me off. U/l's did that more than anything else because of the great variability they exhibit across what is available. Nev

There are at least a couple of RAA aircraft based at Murrayfield that I'm aware of. I think the monthly competition is intended for RACWA members though.
