Hello everyone. I'm a baby boomer pilot, having flown lots in earlier years but not in recent times. My past flying includes hang gliders, gliders, ga power and a little bit of Ultralights. I've done a bit of glider towing, and I love taildraggers, warbirds, aerobatics and formation, but I guess that most of that is now behind me!

In the past I have scratch - built and road registered a road /racing car and am currently a beginner windsurfer.

I like red wine!

I'm thinking again about ultralight flying and perhaps building an "affordaplane" ... mostly 'cos I don't have a lot of spare cash right now. Has anyone any experience/knowledge of these?

Hi Rocket Driver

what sort of rocket do you drvie? Welcome! Do you get or have you seen the "James Halliday 2008 Wine Companion" Check Out The Southern Flinders region, it is the one we are in. A relatively new Wine Region with some distinctly different Flavours!

PM us if you would like more info.

My wife is from the mornington peninsular, her dad has a winery and vineyard over there somewhere!

Happy Flying Cheers Guy

Hello blue shed,

Re rocketdriver, the name is a bit out of date now, and originates from a Lotus 7 lookalike I built , registered and used on the track starting about 10 years ago. The car used a commodore V6 as motive power and we called it the rocket. Used to blow away Porsche911 s around a twisty track like Winton, but not at Phillip Island, as the long straights and streamlined shape of the Porches would get up to 240 km/hr plus as against the brick wall that the Lotus 7 shape runs into at about 200Kph.

When it comes to flying though, I'm not sure if I'm a builder or a flyer. Building always takes longer, costs more than first thoughts would suggest, and I don't have quite as much time as I used to have. I did home design and build a canard hang glider once, but crashed it during its first outing .... not enough directional control from the tip rudders. Still, the wing ribs still make good garden stakes, so it wasn't entirely wasted!
