Tomo Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Photos to come, but just thought I'd let you all know that we bought an old Piper Pacer! Just at the LAME now getting a going over, but pretty excited to have a plane with some character, and tail wheel! 9 3
eightyknots Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Onya Tomo! I hope you don't have long feet. Those Piper Pacer toe brakes are pretty close to the rudder pedals! Take care!!
eightyknots Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 This picture was taken from a Pacer. It's in the Wairarapa valley in winter:
Guest Maj Millard Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Well done Tomo ....always wanted a Pacer myself. Good luck with getting it sorted, and I look foward to seeing some photos shortly. What engine again ?...........Maj....
planedriver Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Congratulations Tomo, very excited for you both. Lovely old aircraft. 4 seats to fill! Is there some other news we haven't been told yet?
ave8rr Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Congrats Tomo. I assume it is one of the two that have been advertised at Albury?? Cheers
facthunter Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Is it made from a tri gear? . Many were converted. You won't have any trouble flying it. Nev
kaz3g Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Great work, mate! I guess its a 22/20? One of the nicest conversions that can be done, especially if Clevelands are part of the package. There's one in the hangar next to me looking for a good home and it's tempting...10-15 knots more TAS and a rear seat that two people of moderate size can actually occupy (mine is just somewhere to store the gear unless they are two smallish kids). But the Pacer land (or crashes) a lot faster than the Auster and the Auster has a joy stick like real aeroplanes should so I'll stick to it until it's time to give it away. Happy flying Kaz 2

Happy flying Kaz Hi Kaz, As you can see from the picture in post No #3, that picture was clearly taken from the back seat of the Pacer. As I am 6' 2" (186 cm) tall, the back seat is not as small as you suggest. It's 'squeezy' but OK for an hour or two.
kaz3g Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Hi 80KN I was thinking more about the back seat pax's girths, than their heights Weight becomes an issue, too, if wanting full fuel but this is true of many smaller GA 4-seaters. I really like the Pacer but the Auster will do me for a few more years Kaz
facthunter Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 The Pacer should be lighter than the Tri-Pacer it is derived from. I presume also the AD's have been done on the airframe tubing near the door.( X ray.) Nev
Ultralights Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 this thread is useless without pics tommo! :)
Mick Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 this thread is useless without pics tommo! :) Yep, without pics it didn't happen.
planedriver Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 We all know that the Solitare exists, but a Pacer??? The old pharmacy at greenwell Point may have some old film for the Box Brownie if you can't find your digital camera. Stop being cruel to us. 1
Tomo Posted October 24, 2014 Author Posted October 24, 2014 this thread is useless without pics tommo! :) Here you go! Needs a bit of TLC which it's getting at the moment, but I love it! Yes ADs are up to date including sealed struts, which is good! 13 2
facthunter Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 Hope she's a good one Tomo. You are now in a GA plane. A whole new ball park. Nev

Guest Maj Millard Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 Nice machine Tommo ...looks just like my Lightwing !......you owe me a ride also by the way...the Pacer will do........Maj....
Guest Maj Millard Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 Maybe you can bring the Pacer and your wife to Old Station next year ??..!.......
ave8rr Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 Tomo, is this the Pacer that has been "metalised"? I am not sure about the wings but believe the fuse has been alloy covered. They are a nice aircraft. Cheers Mike 1
JUSTNUZZA Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 Looks like it came from my neck of the woods at one stage. 2 1
