Hi all,

Myself Ricky and family are moving to Perth at the end of October and would like to meet up with anybody who would like to show me around a bit of the Perth flying scene.

I will be looking to convert my UK NPPL Microlights land licence, so if there is any instructor/examiner on here who can help that would be great.

I currently fly a skyranger microlight which i built myself. and can also fly weight shift microlights (but not flown one for a while).

I am keen buy a share in a three axis machine or weight shift once we settle, all offers considered!!!

Thanks

Ricky

I will steer clear of the doctor if in a wobbly then!

I take it the weather did not stop you flying very much?

We are also hoping to settle around the coast, port Kennedy aerea?

I have found a few airfields, serpentine and nambeelup that i will visit when we arrived. Do you no of any other good strips around Perth that don't take half the day to get too and from? and are ultralight friendly

Ricky ,

Welcome to the board , and it's great to have another Pom on site . I know Sywell quite well from my UK flying days . I used to fly out of what is now Wolverhampton Airport , in my days it was called Halfpenny Green . Can't help you on flying in WA I'm afraid , I'm from the Eastern states now , but you will gain much useful info and I'm sure a few pointers in the right direction here . Have fun , and I hope you arrive and settle in the fantastic flying country soon ..

Hi Ricky,

I have only just joined the forum myself. I live in Perth but currently hire a Lightwing from Gareth Lloyd at Beverley. It is a couple hours out but it is a great airfield and the weather tends to be pretty good there. Gareth is a great instructor and he has another guy, Phil, who has huge experience in RAA and GA instruction. They instruct on Gazelles.

Getting a hanger is a huge job here especially close to the city, I have been looking for a while. Plenty of good flying weather though.

Good luck with the move.

Hi Ricky, I have just jpined the forum. as for friendly airstrips Northam is the go-ahead place at the moment. they are opening up ground for new hangers. Steve Vette is the CFI on 3 axis ultralights at NORTHAM. www.avonvalleyultralights.com.au If you contact him he can give you better informed info. Cheers

Hi Ricky, so how is Sywell nowadays? I flew out of Sywell for about 3 years when I spent time in England in the 80's. I remember it as a classic old grass field with three beautifully mown runways that probably hadn't changed much since the 1920's. I used to fly John Penny's Triplane from Sywell, and think I can even remember the tower frequency and ident, "Sywell Information" on 122.7........ahh nostalgia.

You won't find a better club around Perth than the 'Superlight Aircraft Club of WA'. Ok, so I'm biased, but it is a really friendly club with a wide mix of pilot experience and aircraft types, from homebuilt and classic GA types, through both low-tech and high-tech Ultralights, to weight shift trikes, motor-gliders, and gyros. In spite of this eclectic mix the airmanship is top notch and the 'camaraderie' first class.

We have our own excellent 'associated' instructor who operates off our field at Bindoon and can do your conversion if required. The club has a Thruster which is available for suitably qualified members to hire. Bindoon is around one hour from Perth, which is about as close as you are going to get around here. By all means pm me when you come over and I'll take you out to meet the guys and have a nose around. There is one privately owned Skyranger in the club.

Hi Browning

Sywell is still a great airfield and over the past few years has been revamped and restored. They a have been trying to get a tarmac runway approved for a few years now which is now awaiting final approval so fingers crossed?? they win there appeal's you have got a good memory as 122.7 is still in use.,don't know the guy with the triplane but have seen one hangers.

would be great to go out to the field and met up with other club members, i will keep in touch and hope to meet up when we get settled.

Regards

Ricky
