gandalph Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Camit- Came off smelling like roses. Jabiru Aircraft-Came off smelling like horse manure. If these 2 abovementioned natural odours were mixed together, then the odour coming from this mixture would be pleasant to all Jabiru owners & Pilots . Maybe if Jabiru woke up and smelled the roses..... 2 1
Old Koreelah Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 ...about inhibiting motors. I have NEVER had ONE person respond and indicate they did anything with their motors... If the job wasn't so damn time-consuming we'd probably all do it. I suspect the inhibiting procedure was developed as a once -a-year job for the Frozen North, where many engines hibernate for the winter. If I was to follow the guidelines I'd spend far more time inhibiting than actually using the aircraft. Should we do the job after every flight? We might expect to fly again next weekend, but weather, family and work could keep us grounded for months. On a Jab you need to remove the cowls, the "eyebrows", four plug leads, four plugs, squirt in oil, turn over the engine, then seal it up again. (Mine is stored folded up with prop over the wing, so it can't be turned.) Then, before next flight we need to smear plug threads with "grey gold" - if you have it- and go back thru the whole procedure. There's got to be a better way. Nikasil bores sound like a great idea; maybe one day. Meanwhile, before I shut down I run the engine as hard as the brakes can hold and release a shot of engine oil from a small bottle next to my leg. It goes via a thin tube into the intake just downstream of the carby. A cloud of blue smoke is the signal to stop. 1 1
kaz3g Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 I know. Is Ross really a Major? Is Old Man Emu really a flightless bird? Is Merv really Mozart? Does it matter????? I'm definitely "Kaz" Kaz 1
Guest Maj Millard Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Getting back to more important matters. Was there supposed to be a meeting this afternoon ?If so, did it happen ? Any idea of any outcomes ?? I've heard nothing yet.......
gandalph Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 I must have missed something because I don't recall ever reading about Gandalph's legal quLifications or his role as an officer of the Court.I'd appreciate that information being repeated for my benefit, please. Kaz Kaz, my private life is just that - private. Just as I have no intention of asking your, or anyone else's qualifications, I have no intention of detailing my qualifications here or on any other public forum. Why would you need to know? bexrbetter Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 until now I had assumed that Bex meant a headache powder. My name is "Bex" thereabouts, not "Vincent" Maybe a misnomer as I tend to give people headaches 1

dazza 38 Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 My name is "Bex" thereabouts, not "Vincent" Maybe a misnomer as I tend to give people headaches We might have met once, I took my KTM 640 Adventure rims up to Bikes and Bits to get rim locks fitted and Michelin desert tyres fitted 10 years ago. I also have a 2014KTM 1190 adventure . 1
kaz3g Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Kaz, my private life is just that - private. Just as I have no intention of asking your, or anyone else's qualifications, I have no intention of detailing my qualifications here or on any other public forum. Why would you need to know?Regards G Professional interest, pure and simple. If there is another lawyer on the list would be good to know, especially if they have practice experience in negligence which I readily admit is not my strong point. I'm a generalist these days but my major experience is in the criminal law and the therapeutic jurisprudence. I saw you referred to as an "officer of the Court" so you would most probably be either a lawyer (barrister or solicitor), in which case you can practice law and proffer legal advice, or a Registrar, in which case you can perform administrative acts relating to the law but cannot give legal advice. The distinction is, in my view, an important one as particular credence is apparently being given to your commentary. I usually make it clear if I offer legal commentary on this list that I do so as an expression of personal opinion and not in response to any retainer or like arrangement. I also advise anyone seeking legal advice on an issue to seek independent advice from a practitioner experienced in the area. Happy to continue by PM if you are shy. Kaz 1 2 1

motzartmerv Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Can either of you offer an opinion regarding the current daft from casa increasing the exposure of instructors or the raa for that matter, in the worst possible case scenario, with regards to possible litigation? My q is , does strong statement front the regulator, even in a draft form, set a precedent for anyone wishing to prove neglegance?
dazza 38 Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 My previous CFI delivered a brand new Jab to Boonah a few years ago from the factory. When. I rocked up a few days later, he said to me " pull the engine through and tell what you think ? I did and it had a soft cylinder. This aircraft was virtually brand new. How does one explain that. And the pilot had over 5000 hours experience and he knew to keep he engine cool. Ps - i say previous because he retired from flying 1 1
facthunter Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Motz is entitled to have his concerns addressed, regarding exposure to litigation. It's a serious matter. On the forum, the issue of where we are coming from, (as relates to an individual) is a concern of many contributors regarding the "genuineness" of what people say here in respect of the aims and privileges of for instance the RAAus. ie Are you for or working against it's future. comes up in the minds of some people. WE do have enemies out there, who would welcome it's demise.. From where I stand I hope my position is clear. That doesn't mean I can't criticise some action(s) I don't agree with. Don't challenge someone's credentials and make them prove they are worthy (in your view) as a start point. . Dispute their argument, with facts, if YOU don't agree with it That's your right.. Nev 1
kaz3g Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Merv...that question really needs a lot of research and thought requiring more spare time and knowledge than I have before it can be answered with any authority. It's not my area of expertise and all I can say is that it won't help. Another interesting issue I have been pondering is holding CASA to account for the loss of value owners and operators will undoubtedly suffer irrespective of the outcome. Section 51 of the Australian Constitution says: "(xxxi.) The acquisition of property on just terms from any State or person for any purpose in respect of which the Parliament has power to make laws" It seems to me at first blush that "property" may have a wide meaning depending on the circumstances and that if CASA acts under laws of the Parliament to appropriate some or all of the currently legal rights of the owner of a Jabiru engine-powered 24 aircraft, such as limiting its operation from what has been previously legal under CASA's regulatory standards, an argument can be made that CASA should pay the owner compensation. Rod Stiff might be thinking along that line, too. Not my area as I said before, but interesting to think about. Kaz 1
facthunter Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Don't forget the fact THEY have deeper pockets than you do, affects the final outcome. They fight YOU with your money. Nev 1
kaz3g Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Motz is entitled to have his concerns addressed, regarding exposure to litigation. It's a serious matter........ Nev Yes it certainly is, Nev. But the answer really needs to be provided by someone well-versed in the law of negligence, preferably as it relates to aviation activities, such as Spencer. Kaz 1
kaz3g Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Whats creative about my above post karoona? Maybe you need to clear the sand out of your ears. He seems to be a troll Kaz

facthunter Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Fine, but let's not go too far down this road. I'll let people make of me what they will. What I offer is what I write (for your consideration)..Nev 1
dazza 38 Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 maybe, I am just passing on my personal experience

dazza 38 Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Whats creative about my above post karoona? Maybe you need to clear the sand out of your ears. Nah keenaviator, this post is not creative, just asking a question. Maybe your engine is the next to grenade. 1
