lol. I remember when I first started flying wondering why there were signs everywhere in the flying school (especially in the toilet) saying remember to cancel SAR!

By leaving a flight note with somebody responsible.

But that makes them responsible - why not leave your trip info with a group of people who get paid to care.

If you forget to clear your SARTIME or overrun they will phone or call you on the radio where they think you might be and clarify your intentions. You can even make a request on a monitored frequency and have your SARTIME altered.

Could always use Muslim mentality which is - tell nobody where you are going, if the engine fails and the aircraft lands in the middle of nowhere and the pilot eventually dies due to injuries and lack of water. It is Ok because it is Allahs will.

If you dont cancel SARtime they "stage" and ring you, radio you, ring local contacts and radio overflying aircraft and SAR begins properly.

Does take a while but i guess they have plenty forgetting to cancel everyday. You dont get charged.

I set alarm in phone when I lodge it.

A simple mistake is getting delayed after lodging time or large diversion. need to extend on the run.

I tried the SAR note method and mostly found even reliable people werent. They forgot or lost track of time. Plenty had no idea what to do if the time elapsed.
