bexrbetter Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 Isn't it a simple fix; "Ok Mr Perry, you can leave once per day and land once per day with a 5 minute envelope for each event" Problem solved, it's not like it's a stationary, constant noise or he's coming in and out all day long.
DGL Fox Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 Like his neighbor said there would be more noise with some lawn mowers and blowers and for a much longer time than a helicopter taking off and landing.... try living beside someone with a barking dog night and day like we had to.. I sold the house to get away for these uncaring selfish people..so a helicopter for me a couple of times a day would be nothing.. As Bex said maybe a limit on his comings and goings and proper fencing for safety... David
Guernsey Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 Take the whinging neighbours for a ride a few times, that might fix the problem. Alan. 1 2
DGL Fox Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 Yes good idea... send out a letter to the neighborhood... free BBQ and helicopter rides this Sunday... please sign here first to say you are ok with my helicopter being here before you take your ride.. David 1 2
pmccarthy Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 Bloke in the next hangar had to pick up his daughter and friend from a beach house. Asked the father if it was ok to pick them up in his chopper. The father said what if I drive down there and you bring me back instead.
seb7701 Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 Three neighbours say they have no problem with it - what's the bet they listen to the one whinger! If he gets knocked back, I hope he buys the loudest bloody mower he can find.... 1 1
DGL Fox Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 Or join the club and find the biggest loudest DOG...to annoy the crap out of everyone... David 1
Jaba-who Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 Despite being a helicopter pilot and having had my own R22 which i would have liked to land at my residential area home, I can have some sympathy for the person who is not happy though. But not on the noise issue because you guys are all correct - the noise from other things round the place is often much more prolonged and intrusive. I had a look at the allotment on google maps and he is pushing the envelope a bit. He has a one way in and one way out approach to the vacant lot he is proposing to use. - otherwise he's going to have to land over people's houses. On his approach He has to cross a working road/street at low altitude and on very short final. There's reasonable arguments against both those. As well there are the down wash and dust, dirt and debris that will get thrown all over the place. He's neighbours house looks as though it is actually closer to the landing spot than his own so it might be more of an issue to them than first meets the eye. I have seen many unreasonable restrictions and even complete banning put on operating both fixed and helicopter operations in areas much more suitable that in truth were just jealousy related ( even the celebrated one in sydney where the complainant actually was forced to admit in court that her motivation was to stop rich men's wives getting to the myer sales ahead of the common folk who had to the public transport) but the powers that be went along with the restrictions. But in this case I am inclined to suggest that our pilot brother might be generating more trouble ( for him and future pilots) than is reasonable. 1

As sympathetic as one can be to the Pilots concerns with respect to the current Local Authority restrictions imposed on this Helicopter Pilots operations at his private property in a built up area, there is nothing more certain that if the Pilot were to lodge an application to the Local Authority for a MATERIAL CHANGE OF USE at his dwelling as already indicated by him for private HELICOPTER operations, then it is highly unlikely that the Local Authority would approve such application due to the existing Local Authority ByLaws . If in the event the Local Authority were to approve this application, then it would be likened to Santa Claus stating that this year is the last time he will be delivering presents to all of us on 25.12.14 because he predicts that the end of world is to come on 31.12.14.
Jaba-who Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 Had a further look on Google street view and I'm a bit more of the mind that he should not be even thinking about it from an aviation safety point of view. Has to land over power lines (on the same side of the street as his block) and ~5m trees (on opposite side of street) and the block has a double story place right next to the area he wants to use. In the words of Captain Smith, "What could possibly go wrong?" It doesn't comply with the CAAPs on helicopter ALAs either which aren't compulsory but are pretty much "you should comply unless you have a really good reasons". I doubt he'd get any insurance cover for something that went wrong there on that account. I tried to attach a street view photo of the allotment but can't seem to get it to upload. But anyway it shows a double story house with nearest wall and obvious rooms about a blade diameter from the centre of the landing spot. Even as a "rabid-pro-aviation" person myself I think I'd draw the line myself if I was that neighbour. 1
