Guest Redair Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 Greetings each, I trust all had a good Christmas... I was wondering if anyone else out there has purchased a Microair VHF/UHF combo? If so... does it work? That is to say, when you switch to UHF, (Comms 2) are you able to communicate on the UHF correctly via your headset? Is your passenger still able to communicate with you? Or like me, are you ready to rip the whole lot out of your aircraft and shoot it? Let's just say that "Not impressed" doesn't really cover it for a kit which costs over $2,000 and doesn't do what it says on the tin. I would love to know if anyone has any suggestions on how to make it work. Thanks, Redair.
Kyle Communications Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 Where did you get the combo from?...sounds like it is not wired correctly. I have a Xcom which I wired and modified the UHF to work the same. It works flawlessly...its not hard there must be a wiring stuff up on the switch ...The UHF will need to be modified though ..was your system supplied with the UHF?
Kyle Communications Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 I am away at the moment for the next week so have my circuits at home but I am sure there is a schematic either on the Xcom or Microair websites
SDQDI Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 I never new they did a combined unit. I run a separate UHF and it all seems to work perfectly, I hear them both all the time With a toggle select for the transmit (priority hearing is given to the one that is selected VHF/UHF ) and the intercom works fine
Kyle Communications Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 No they are not a dual band radio. It is a separate airband and a separate UHF. There is a switch that allows you to select which radio you actually transmit on. Other than that the VHF and the UHF comes through all the time in your headset if you don't want the UHF you can turn the volume on the UHF down or turn the radio off. The selector switch basically just switched the microphone line between the 2 different radios
