Pearo Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Hi, I am currently in training at YRED for my PPL. Should be done by now but a kangaroo decided to jump out in front of me on the highway when I was was riding my motorcycle and delayed my training by 8 months. Currently doing area solo's and pretty close to getting my RPL (former GFPT). Starting the Bob Tait PPL course next week, then hopefully do my PPL navs full time in Feb. Feb is going to be an expensive month!! Not sure what I will do with the PPL just yet, but there is a couple of places I want to fly too, one being the fringes of the simpson desert and the other being the whitsundays. I am throwing around the idea of purchasing an aircraft, but the plan at this point is just to hire for a year or so to see what sort of flying I do. Other interests are sailing. I do a fair bit of racing, that is when my boat (22' catamaran) is not broken! Cheers, Andy. 2
magishme Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Welcome Andy, I am Brisbane and have an RPL and Pilot certificate and just recently completed my Cross Country endorsement. I have similar ideas as you on my radar and am just hiring for the time being. What school is training you?

Which just goes to prove that once bitten by the flying bug, there aren't many antidotes. Glad you survived the kangaroo incident, they can be real nasty. My son with 2yr old grandson onboard recently hit one writing off his Honda CRX on The New England Highway at night. Dad advised Pacific Highways a bit better at night in that regard, but how often do kids listen to old farts like me? Good luck with the training. Rgds. Planey
rhysmcc Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 I'm moving to Brisbane in the next few months and will also be looking at securing a regular flying machine. Is there anything like MAG or BFG in Redcliffe or Caboolture? Either VH or RA-AUS registered?
frank marriott Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Pearo Just be mindful if you are planning Shute Harbour in the Witsundays (nice place) with a new licence, they require prior permission and 100hrs command time. I am sure you would check the ERSA anyway.

Is there anything like MAG or BFG in Redcliffe or Caboolture? Either VH or RA-AUS registered? I have no idea what MAG or BFG is sorry. Redcliffe is mainly all VH Cessna's, but there are a few others. RA-AUS stuff is more common at Caboolture. I am sure you would check the ERSA anyway. I am a while off doing anything like that!! I plan to do NVFR and PIFR ratings before I start venturing wide. I will probably look at getting a CSU endorsement as well as the club has an excellent g1000 Cessna 182. 1
rhysmcc Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Sorry, Melbourne Aircraft Group (MAG) and Brisbane Flying Group (BFG), they are aircraft syndicates. A trip to Hamilton Island would be quite nice, Shute Harbour is quite turbulent i'm told (why the 100hrs limit)
frank marriott Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Airport Operators requirement - I can only guess because of wind shear at times - it is not extreme but can be a handful at times, particularly for someone with little island type landings.

Sounds like YRED to me!! We always have gusting crosswinds, especially at this time of year.
